How far ahead do u plan ur holidays?
Lots of friends seem to plan there holidays upto a year in advance, where as I have always seem to decide normally a couple of days b4 or as little as 6 hours and pack my bags and I am off.
Kids aside why do people plan so far in advance or am I the odd one out

Thailand - 1 week
Drive across America - 1 week
Wedding in Oz - 3 days (i lost the invite and was reminded)
New Zealand - 2 weeks
Chamonix - 1 day & 3 days
Whistler - 5-6 days
Ibiza - 4-6 hours
Trying to get time off from the bosses I find is the hardest thing

Off to Geneva in a week or so, booked that a month or two back (so we could both book holiday from work).
Already have time booked off in March for a short break in Berlin.

If the place you want to go to is popular, and you want to go at peak time then you need to do it well in advance to get a good quality at a good price. For example, we always book our ski trips around 3 months in advance, otherwise all the best value accomodation in the resort centre will be full.
Planning late is fine if you don't care where you want to go and how much you want to pay.

Sking is a toughy as European Snow is not what I would consider reliable so I tend to look at the snow reports and at least I know there will be decent snow when i get there but I do take your point that the best accomadation has always gone
I think also women especially like to know what they are doing well in advance. Probably so they can coordinate the wardrobe!

You hit the nail on the head there, every woman I have had the pleasure of going on holiday with need to know everything in advance, so that they can maticulously plan to the Nth degree, down to orientation of the toothbrush in the toiletries bag.
