****! shame my living room is too small for a 42" tv
Waiting for 30" LCD's to drop in price.
That sounds like a cracking deal though! Have they got a website?

the early plasma's failed in 3- 5 years guranteed we had 8 sony 42" and 2 pioneer 50" the pioneers cost 18k at the time. Within 18 months 3 Sonys had failed.
My office now has a Panansonic that has been going strong for 4 years.
I still wouldnt buy one the picture is to rigid and hard very difficult for the eys to relax on, awful at TV not to bad for DVD.
Wait for LCD, and definelty go and see one before buying that tiny one, it could make your eyes bleed !!!.

LCD technology is not as good as Plasma yet. It will catch up, and probably overtake before too long, but I expect it to be a couple of years or so before it does. There's still too much lag / blurring on even the most expensive LCD screens at the moment to justify the cost....

Not impressed at all with the current crop of LCD screens. Too blurry, especially with large / fast pans (like when watching a football match for example)...

Maybe not - but the Samsung model in currys is £1199 without any of the other stuff on offer. So maybe you do get what you pay for but it equates to about £600 for a 42" plasma, if you buy the rest individually, as the prices and manufacturers RRP's are shown in the advert.
And no its not on tiny.com website - its tiny direct.

I just read the advert - you don't get the DVD and 5.1 stuff, that bit is extra
You get the screen, detachable speakers, tuner and table mount stand. None of the other stuff.
Basically its the telly delivered for £1299
Edit to say you get the internet bit too.

I am sorry - I never seen the little options text at the side. I though it was a good deal and rushed it onto scoobynet to give people a chance to have look, yep doesn't seem a very good deal now.

On a seperate note mate, its generally advised not to play computer games on Plasmas due to the image potentialy being burned onto the screen, for example if you play Halo, the whole time you playing, your health bar and radar are in exactly the same place without changing for however long you play....sure someone a bit more technical can confirm...??
shame as X-box and DVD's is all i'd want one for!

With any plasma screen it is not advisable to keep any static images on the screen for long periods of time due to the image burn in problems. This not only affects console games, but also things like the sky logo display at the top of the sky one channel etc, (although this isn't a problem because they switch to adverts every 10 minutes during which they don't show the logo).
The burn in effect varies from screen to screen and of all the makes it is generally agreed that the panny is the least prone to these problems. I know of people who have had the same game running on the screen for 7-8 hours at a time with no problems with burn in what so ever.
Most games do have a health bar, rev counter etc, but also drop you back to a title screen, or cut-scenes through the game and so the burn in potential is greatly reduced. Basically, as long as you're sensible and don't play the same game non-stop for 5 hours (you shouldn't do this anyway for health reasons), then you'll have no problem at all.
Don't believe all the scare stories. As long as you run the screen in correctly, they're not as fragile as some people make them out to be (at least, the panny isn't)....

how sure about the screen burn are you, i mean, a year or two with no prob is fine, but how do you know if there are any negatives 5/10 years down the line?? not arguing as i know little or nothing, just curious!

Yep. Finished it as well
There's been a lot of discussion about this on AV Forums.
There's one chap on there who has played halo for 8+ hours at a stretch and not even had any after image effects, let alone burn in (this is on the panny pw6 screen - some lesser / cheaper screens are less sturdy).
I'm not the slightest bit worried about image burn in at all, and as for all the scare stories you read about lifespan of the screens, it's a load of rubbish. The average "full performance" life of a plasma screen is quoted as somewhere around 30,000 hours of use.
This works out somewhere around 12 years of use if you have the screen turned on for 7 hours a day, every day of the year. Even after that, the screen will still work fine, and you probably won't even notice any dropoff in performance for some time.
I'll be wanting a new telly by then anyway because technology will have moved on quite a lot by then
My last CRT (a Sony) only lasted 5 years....
