Curtains... hanging thereof
So I found a rare hole in my vast knowledgebase....
what's the best way to go about hanging curtains? I have asked my "personal interior design consultant" but the b!tch keeps stitching me up with a load of BS, and has told everyone to tell me the same thing!
I assume you hang the curtains, fold up the bottom and secure somehow, then take down and permanently fix the folded bottom bit in that position.... somehow....
Advice greatfully received!
p.s. I don't do sowing!

If I had my time all over again I would probably opt for blinds.... but I got in such a rage trying to find the right poles, rings and other paraphanalia I ended up spending several hundred pounds on it all in John Lewis just so I could get it over with. So I am well past the point of no return!
Its all been festering in the garage for months but unfortunately the curtains have arrived now and I've got no excuse not to put them up!

Can't you get some sorta tape stuff that you put on the hem and fold it into position like you was saying. Then you iron where the tape is and it sticks there..
Hem: Folded up sewed bit at the bottom. Might just be frayed stuff if they're unfinished.
Iron: Hot metal thingy. Check with the missus.

They are loop top curtains that will be drawn on poles.... that bit I can cope with.... its cutting them down to the right length that I'm struggling with!
This iron on stuff sounds good.... I guess you hang them, fold and gaffer tape the bottom to the correct length then iron the sticky stuff over the edge to keep it up.... but what if the fold is massive..... cut it then fold it?

The tape goes inside - think double-sided rather than sellotape. I think the idea is to pin them in position. You got to remember that I'm hedging a few guesses here, I should point out I've never hung a curtain in my life. On that note however, if I was gonna hang some curtains that's what I'd use. And yes, If the fold was massive I'd cut the bottom off. But getting it straight would be interesting

What you should do is measure your window opening, and take the curtains to a curtain shop to be shortened properly, it will only cost a few quid. If you try and bodge it, it will look crap. Don't forget to tell the curtain people how far above the head of the window opening you have the track / pole. If you haven't fixed the pole/track yet you can ask them what distance to use and they will shorten the curtains accordingly.
Poles and tracks are easier enough, just screw and plug them to the wall or fix a timber batten on first.

I think I'll offer up the curtains and if they are within a few inches I'll order some of that tape stuff (online obviously! ). If the length is miles out then I will employ a menial to do it! Sweet.
thanks folks!

Just to drag this thread back onto track...
If the curtain weight is quite light - you would find putted a coin (2p) in the corner helpful to get them to hang right.
Getting the length is fairly easy - hang 'em, fold 'em, measure 'em, pin 'em and get the WonderWeb stuff... it works.
This is all from watching my wife and mother in-law sort out curtains before ANY sarky comments start.

Pin the hem on the curtain to length, and leave it for a couple of weeks with it pinned in place before fixing it permanently, either with hem tape as above, or sewing them up.
Some materials will drop a little after they've been hung for a while.

I did this recently.(my curtains were on rails)
1.Hang them
2.decided what length you want
3.measure it
4.Take them to one of those shops that do alterations, mine took 3 days and cost £20.If they have linings might as well get it done properly.
