Ebay! Fraud!

Just received an email from ebay/paypal. Have removed £150 from my account as they believe a buyer used a unauthorised credit card. The item was sold (and cleared early September and ebay/paypal now require a tracking number although the buyer has already confirmed receipt of the item. I had a tracking number for the item and got rid of it as soon as he confirmed he had received it.
Now I have a choice....supply a tracking number or admit liability.
Any experience of this? I never thought it was possible to get ripped off once the money was clear?
Also any chance the Post Office has a record of the parcel?
Bob

paypal seller protection requires proof of posting+trackable posting.
No way around it- if you have lost the number then nothing you can do about it!
I have a box of every recorded delivery slip from the last 12 months, just in case someone tries this on.

Its in their T&C somewhere
They can pull it from your account at any time yes if they suspect fraud.
Check your sent/recieved emails- it may be in there somewhere?

just checked my inbox and its not there. Its not well known that you should keep the tracking number even after confirmation from buyer of sucessful delivery or not to accept payments via paypal and let somebody collect the item.
You can however send to an unconfirmed address![Roll Eyes (Sarcastic)](https://www.scoobynet.com/images/smilies/rolleyes.gif)

Nasty. I think my mate has lost a few hundred quid on a camera he purchased ona buy it now (20 available). He made contact with the seller and ageed delivery etc. Then he was notified by e-bay the sellers account and sale was suspended.
Hopyfully paypal should sort it if the camera doesn't urn up - if not...there's fraud protection on the credit card too![Smile](https://www.scoobynet.com/images/smilies/smile.gif)
Ebay really is rife with dodgy people these days though

Suprise. Suprise. The buyer still has a 100% active ebay account yet he's using a duff credit card (apparently).
From his feedback I can tell he's not actually brought that much. He brought a mobile from me and later sold it and a mobile from somebody else and sold that too. He has 100% feedback.
Now why would a fraudster send out the mobile phones which he sold? Why didnt he just pocket the money and keep the mobiles? All this for a couple of hundred quid?

Happened with me but i provided a tracking number and STILL didnt get refund me as i sent it to an "unconfirmed address". The buyer used a stolen credit card to pay me via paypal
but
about month or so down the line - paypal came back to me and refunded me the ££ less a £7 admin fee
so alls not lost

i see what your saying bob, but there must be tons of stuff sent with out a tracking number, yet you do things correctly and get the hassle,
i waited over two weeks for some dvds from one seller and nothing came so i filed a dispute and 10 days later i got refunded so paypal aren't all bad
has the seller contacted you or vice versa, just a thought but i cancelled one credit card and paypal tried to use it but couldn't

This sale was back in early september. He confirmed receipt of the item via email.
He wanted it in a hurry whilst I was awaiting a stylus pen for the phone (inc in sale) from my network provider. The network provider hasn't got the stylus out to me yet. Could it be that he cancelled his card afterwards as paypal only let you make a dispute within 30days?
Unfortunatley paypal dont give the option of forwarding evidence such as emails etc. They just want a tracking number.

It's probably worth calling Paypal and getting a better picture of what they actually suspect here. It may be that the buyer had his card used for other stuff and told his credit card company that it was all fraudulent usage.
Emailing Paypal for answers normally gets you nowhere and their procedure system online is a joke, you normally get 2 options of whether you're guilty or guilty.
Ask Paypal why the guy's account is still active?

Sent paypal email evidence that the guy received the item and on my feedback he confirms he has received most (all except a low value item, which was advised at the time of sale).
He has sold the same item (for £7 less) which shows on his ebay transactions.
Paypal not bothered...they only want a tracking number!
Result -£150!!!

They really do take the pi$$.
First they were going to take the money from my account because there was no tracking number available. Now I have provided it....
1) My a/c wasnt fully verified (is now...but whats that got to do with it)
2) Was sent to unverified address ( as stated on paypal its okay to send to unverified)
Anything not to reverse the chargeback.
I have provided them with:
1) proof of delivery
2) proof the buyer sold the same item I sold him
3) all email correspondence
What more do they want![Roll Eyes (Sarcastic)](https://www.scoobynet.com/images/smilies/rolleyes.gif)

On a slightly different note I had my ebay account hacked and hijacked a few weeks ago. My fault for having an easy to guess password but how many other people out there have simple passwords?
The guy was in Canada, changed all my details and started advertising paintball guns for sale. I was still able to get access to my account using my Passport (hotmail) account but everytime I cancelled the auctions and changed all the details he was immediately able to somehow change them back.
After chatting to an ebay representative I got my account reset but this took most of an evenings messing about. Then 2 weeks later I had ebay trying to charge me listing fees for all of these items so yet more hassle getting these charges removed from my account. I then had a mad panic as my paypal account has the same password but luckily nothing had been done to this account. i have now changed all my passwords to upper/lower/symbol/number type passwords.
The long and the short of it is I am never going to use ebay again due to the scammers and hackers. I guess ebay don't really care too much about these problems due to the amount of money they are making but surely they are going to have to eventually take notice and do something about it?
