Canon EOS 10D Problem?
#1
![Question](https://www.scoobynet.com/images/icons/icon5.gif)
Hello, My new Eos 10D Arrived yesterday afternoon
. This is my first EOS digital camera. I had a EOS 10 before.
The new EOS 10D seems to working fine on full auto mode, but as I try ANYTHING in any of the manual modes (Tv, Av, M etc) all I get is Err 99. Then the camera locks up and I have to turn it off then try again.
I am doing something wrong? Sorry if this seems a really stupid question, complete beginer.
The lens I am using is a Sigma 28 -70mm, which seems to work fine in auto?
Any advice would be great.
Martyn

It happens on some 300D's too
Mine (300D) is fine - but, I would look into it FAST so you can return it if you feel you can't live with it doing it all the time.

I have a 10d and have never had this error.
I just tried a google search and it seems to be a common problem.
Take a look.

It is not a question living with it? I just does not seem to work in any manual modes ![Frown](https://www.scoobynet.com/images/smilies/frown.gif)
I feel very fed up about this if I wanted a point and shoot digital camera I would have bought one.
Has anybody else on here had similar problems with a Canon EOS digital?
Any advice would be great, do I send it back or contact Canon.
Thanks
Martyn

Send it back - not fit for the purposes of etc...
I've just got a 20D (
) and I put in a CF card which had a couple of other files on it (word.doc type stuff). When I got to the last of the photos, the whole lot corrupted and I lost 100+ photos. I put an empty CF card in and it reported the same number of photo capacity as the other. Therefore it would seem that the camera thought that the original one was empty and when it tried to save the last photo, it got confused. I had an error message as well.
Just a warning to folks to not insert CF cards that you use for other stuff without first clearing them.

Have you tried formatting the compact flash card (available in Menu settings)?
Alternatively, you could try downloading the latest firmware:
http://www.canon.co.jp/Imaging/EOS10...irmware-e.html
It's probably worth trying the above before you send it back, although I suspect it might be your Sigma lens, espacially if it's an older model.

Hi Daryl,
Tried both![Frown](https://www.scoobynet.com/images/smilies/frown.gif)
Formated the card and checked Canon's website, it has the latest firmware (2.0.1).
Is it just me that has this problem, no one else on scoobynet?
Thanks
Martyn

Martyn,
I noticed you posted on photo.net. The guys on there are most likely correct. Some of the older Sigma lens are known for compatability issues. You can however send the lens off to Sigma for re-chipping.
Are all of your lenses the same age? Generation?
Darren

Martyn, how much did you pay for your 10D? Was it new?
I only ask as given that the 20D is now out the 10D's are dropping in price. Im off the the Florida in 3 weeks so a new 10D can be had for about £400 incuding the US residents rebate from B&H. Just gotta sweet talk our friends now and the girlfriend as she is flying from Florida -> New York for a wedding whilst we are out there.
hmmm

Sigma lenses that were made before approx. December 2000 (IIRC), may or may not cause problems with EOS Digital bodies.
If the lens is a favorite, send it back to Sigma for rechipping.
If not, simply trade it in against a new lens.
Cheers
Ian

I had this problem with mine when I first got it. I traded the lense in for a genuine Canon model and all the problems went away, (and the picture quality of the Canon lense was a lot better as well
).
Seems the 10D doesn't work to well with some of the older Sigma lenses
