Have you ever been to amsterdam?
Hi all
Well i have got my feet back on the ground now that i am back home.
I went to the dam for 3 days and i must say that i have not had so much fun in a long time.
My question is this;
Do you like the red light district or not??
I know what i think of it how about you?

What a top weekend, everyone is so friendly especially some of the young ladies-lol.
I have been several times and it never fails to give you total satisfaction, there is so much to do during the day and when the night falls the whole place comes to life.

I certainly do like it and i've been a few times but the last time i went, i wasn't impressed.
There was a lot more touting going on (in your face stuff) and a lot more "unsavoury" looking gangs just hanging around all over the place
Having said all that, i feel a lot safer their than i do in Manchester

I am going there for New Year with a few mates, have been before but didn't really find many great pubs/clubs outside red light district.
what bars/clubs would you recommend? What else did you do?
Cheers for any help.

The main thing i would say is we could not find a club that was worth going to so i dont think that looking for a club is a good idea.
As for the gangs that are hanging around there is nothing to worrie about as long as you do not buy anything from them.

LOVE IT!!!
Chopper mate great choice, check out http://www.amsterdamhotspots.nl/even...ntnewyear.html for club stuff, lots going on! Also punch in Amsterdam NYE into google for more ideas.
Most of the main squares(dam square, rembrantsplein, leidseplein) turn into Beirut with hundreds of people descending on them with boxes of bangers and fireworks setting them off everywhere, at foot level too I'm told!
I've been eight times myself, just got back from a week there judging a certain little Cup Also was over there for Dance Valley 2001, now that was something, 18 tents and well over 100,000 people, pure madness!
The street dealers and gangs seem to have all but disapeared since I started going in 1997, back then you couldn't walk down anywhere in the RLD without having speed/ecstasy/coke whispered in your ear and feeling a little nervous, didnt get that once this time

Went to Amsterdam for New Year, last year. 1st night me and misses went on barge for 2hr cruise drinking wine and eating cheese. Sounds boring but it was freezing outside and the idea of taking in scenery whilst getting pissed appealed.
Seeing in the New Year was mad. Watch out for fireworks. The people there throw them all over the place - Catherine Wheels spinning in the middle of the roads etc.
We loved it. As for the dirty hos, they're definately worth a few looks. Didnt buy any **** as there was too much to choose from.

The streets are pretty intact at the moment, bar two spots I saw, the bit of road that leads you to the Grasshopper coffeeshop from the Damrak and one bit of road right down at the Albert Cuyp market. Central station is being/about to be done up at the moment too, didnt affect transport though.
Yeah it is funny wandering round the RLD, often seems to be the, erm, less attractive girls doors that have men scuttling out of them.
Jim, I heard that too from a few people, still seemed pretty hectic though, Barneys was crammed like never before, I would definately do it again.

Its not all that bad. For nightlife, last time I was there, I went to Escape in the square which is a little way down from Dam square. Played house music all night ling from 11 till 5am. I quite enjoyed it, even though I only went there cos I couldnt find a Gabba night to go to.

Been there three times now ....
two were stag do's
once on a football tour.
Enjoyed it and did all the usual things but all of the people iwent with also came to Prague recently and we all agreed Prague was a much better bet...
MORE beutifull women,
Cheeper drinks,
No hobo's asking you for money or dru*gs all the time,
Much nicer scenery in a place with an interesting history.
