Latest figures show the government spends 28.3% of your taxes - thats £138bn - on social services (euphamistically called social protection LOL) - DHSS payments to us old farts....more than any other department like health or schools......
data from http://www.hm-treasury.gov.uk/econom...statistics.cfm
and presented in a graph (badly) here
http://homepage.ntlworld.com/mark.wa...t-spending.xls
Good to see those disadvantaged people are not being left to rot in the gutter.....

As expected really - IMO they should scrap the NHS and go to an American style health insurance system. This would save shed loads, and stop health tourism etc, and almost certainly be a better service. Dole payments certainly need looking into - that wife-swap springs to mind..... and I dont even need to start on immigration, there should be a quote, and immigrants returned home when their country becomes safe etc.
People get too much for nothing in this country, and it costs us workers far too much.

Social security (or wotever they call it now) needa major revamp. When I got made redundant I was able to cliam a whole £53 odd a week! NO help for the mortgage or owt like that. If I'd been in a council house or a single, gay mother I would have been able to afford expensive trainers/DVDs etc etc ...... You pays all your life into the tax/NI system and then get bog all back when it's your turn to be out of work .... no wonder people *fiddle* taxes etc (not that I have ever done so or would condone such activity - heaven forbid) ..
Dave
PS: is it just me but why do people buy expensive trainers just to go shopping in? I'll buy expensive running shoes - JUST to go running nin. I would never (hopefully) be seen in a pair of trainers other than that ....
