Anybody here HIV+ or know anyone well who is?

Hello
I knew someone who was HIV+ a few years ago, well over 10 years ago, but unfortuntately they died.
If you want serious help, you should probably ask a question rather than getting people to PM you.
Steve.

SN is pretty daft place to get "serious" advice on anything (apart for cars) but it passes the time.
I would assume a topic on HIV is one that requires serious input and isnt suitable to pass the time...may want to look elsewhere!

I think getting HIV sufferers on the Weakest Link is a really bad idea, Anne, don't do it.
Alternatively if you want sensible info try the Terrence Higgins Trust website

Dont you just think its terrible though that if you get life assurance you have to declare if you have had an aids test. Surely its better to not ask the question than have people die in ignorance because it would affect their premiums. It must be better to be safe and responsable. In fact its criminally stupid IMHO. Should be outlawed. Is it not a form of discrimination

Totally agree stuey, at the company I work at a couple of us needed to get keyman insurance, advisor came and took all our details a month or so later doctor contacts me to say I need a HIV test before they will accept the policy, I consider myself low-risk but if you have the test you have to see a councillor. Ten minutes with the councillor and I was convinced I had it and was crapping myself about having a test! And the biggest joke is they would have an exclusion that wouldnt cover you if you did die from it!

Hmm seems strange - my keyman insurance didn't stipulate I'd have to have a HIV test. They seemed more bothered about me smoking than whether or not I'd 'spunked up a wrong 'un'

Just ask what you want to know. If we know the answer we will reply. I can certainly have a go at answering questions specific to the microbiological side of things.

Note to everybody - dont let this happen to you. If you're too drunk to know what you're doing, just dont do it. I'd swap the way I'm feeling right now for anything, it's terrifying.

Does that mean Anne Robinson is either a man or a lesbo??

My appointment will be after twelve weeks from the time I slept with this woman. Low-risk means "normal" sex - with a condom. That split. Didn't really think more of it until I started generally feeling unwell, putting 2 and 2 together and getting 5. The girl is being very defensive in a "you shouldn't have got me drunk" way, but denies being infected. Problem is, many people out there dont know they have it. It's a horrible situation - I wouldn't wish it on my worst enemy.

I really feel for you. The wait of that duration must be agonising. Is there no way it can be done sooner? - or does it not show up?
Given that your partner has been intimate with many other people recently, she is likely to be carrying other bugs (other than the nasty one in question), it's probabily a case of you've got the flu / cold from her & nothing more.

As for me having something to hide, I certainly haven't. I had a family friend die of AIDS before most people knew what it meant and I've worked and socialised with several HIV+ people in the past.
