Did I meet the girl of my deams? - probabily not, but everyone there was very friendly.

SingleDude - OK, I can only really speak for Canadain sites, as that is what I'm using at the moment, however, most of them do have UK divisions.

Some are free, others are not. The norm seems to be it's free to join and search and 'wink' at people, but to email them, you need to pay.
My fave site happens to be lavalife.com, partly as I like the 'credits' idea behind payment, the site looks nice, and I've met a few nice girls from there (dated one of them for a couple of months). I'm sure there is a UK version of LL too.
Match.com is another good one too, and they do have a UK site I believe.
Date.com, Yahoo, you name it, there are many many many sites.
One of the better ones is eharmony, it's not your usual type of dating site, but it does match you in a better way, or so they say, and I've met a few girls from this too.
My advice on this whole thing? Ignore what anyone might say, give it a go, you can keep it annoymous if you like ,no problem, and there are plenty of girls on there. Do NOT get disheartend if you don't get replies from girls right away.
Don't lie in your profile either, be as honest and upfront as you want to be. If you're just after a **** then some of the sites do have an "intimate encounters" area, as LL calls it.
As for all girls on there being fat munters, or blokes, not true. I've met quite a few girls and they have all been 'normal' and certainly none of them have been blokes. Why do they do it? same reasons as we do, bored of the bar/club scene, or happen to be working professionals so free time is at a premium.
I've had a few people think I'm a little odd for doing it, but I don't care, to me it's the same as meeting someone in a bar, except you get to find out a bit more about them beforehand.

This is true, there are some pretty shallow people on soem sites, take the welsh chap on DD who was bascially just using it as a **** service.
All I can say is that in my experience I've only met honest and genuine people, and fingers crossed, I won't meet any wierdos
