Yeah, that's a serious amount of money even to him. He does have a softer side that many don't realise - witness his dismay at the events of 9/11.
Hats off to him.

That's bloody impressive.
However, did anyone see the irony in another event?
"World champion James Gibson will be among 70 swimmers from Loughborough University raising money through a 100km charity swim on 13 January. "

I wonder if any others of the worlds richest people do the same so significantly?
I'm not saying they should give, or how much they give. But if you have so much disposable money that your secretary could run off with it and you wouldn't notice it missing (I remember LMAO when I read that story in the paper ) then they should give a large chunk to charity on a regular basis.

That's what, five or seven grand each? Isn't that about how much they get paid for 10 seconds of picking their nose?

Schumacher has gone up greatly in my estimation.

I think Schuey's manager will be in for a right old bollocking from him as it turns out Schumacher didn't want it publicised, but his manager let the cat out of the bag on a German TV or radio show. To me that makes it an even greater gesture although the fact it has come to light is probably a good thing if it makes other celebrities put their hands in their pockets.

Nice one
However, I am not trying to take anything from him (a spectacular show of generosity) but there are also people out there with a lot less than him who always find something to give.
Wonder if some of the other grossly overpaid people in sport will be following suit?
How much could the Beckhams afford to donate?

Considering he's on $80 million a *year* it's a drop in the ocean for him. Probs did it to ease his guilt - thus there is little merit in the act IMO

A great gesture from a man I, 5 minutes ago, disliked enormously.

What guilt UB? Schuey didn't cause the disaster. At the end of the day he didn't have to donate anything but he chose to give a large amount. How much do you think he should have donated then? Can't anyone wealthy donate without it being seen as cynical/guilt ridden/drop in the ocean/publicity seeking etc. The %age of his money is irrelevant, it's $10m more going to a good cause. Maybe YOU should donate to the starving in Africa, that chip on your shoulder should feed millions for years
