So that's the rich that the government have pissed off now.
Are there any groups left to really annoy?
Time to work out how much I can rake-in on benefits for doing fek-all rather than working

It's rediculous
I'm guessing it will mean that someone who is considered better off will pay more for a lesser crime than someone who is worse off will for a major one, if you know what I mean

I do resent the fact that as a normally law abiding citizen, if i do 80 on a motorway I get a bigger slap than a serial offender.

What's the problem. Are you guys actually defending law breakers? I thought everyone here wanted more severe punishments for crimes.
For sure there are better ways to do things but I don't really care as these new rules won't affect me as I don't break the law. And if I ever did, I'd know what the risks are. At the moment the risks aren't that great for many people so they chance it.

Excellent idea!!
The pain of the penalty should be the same however wealthy you are - or whats the point of fines???
Another SUPERB Labour policy!!
Some just don't 'Get-It' yet do they?? The Tories are finished, no good bleeting and crying!!

it should be the absolute opposite.
the pikeys should pay the most!!!
Chavs should pay almost as much,
I wonder what the figures are for criminal earnings (in reality) in relation to income, chavs need money for special brew and skins, pikeys need money for dags food and a new caravan.
so they rob.
what are current stats. for middle to high earners committing these sort of crimes

I think in principle it is ok.
The point of fining people is to deter them from doing stuff again. There is also an element of punishment involved.
Person 1 gets caught doing 50 in a 30 - fined £300
Person 2 gets caught doing 50 in a 30 - fined £300
Person 1 is a millionaire, Person 2 makes millionaires shortbread.
If we are using fines as a punishment / to deter this will not affect the millionaire in the slightest.
How is this fair?

Person 1 earns the national average of £35k - 50 in a 30 = £300 fine
Person 2 earns, earns lets say a modest £100k - 50 in a 30 = £900 fine
That IS fair!!!
If I was fined £300 I would moan but it wouldn't really matter to me ..... £900 would hurt more and make me REALLY sure I didnt speed again!!
Its so simple, so fair, thats I am amazed at the lack of common sense from some!?
