If you get arrested?
If you get arrested, obviously they take your details, fingerprints etc.
When they have your prints do they search the database for unsolved crimes that you could be connected to? Are they able to prosicute?
What if you refuse to give your prints?
Im obviously got nothing to worry about, pure as the drivemn snow

If your prints match any unsolved crime then you will be questioned in relation to it and if they have enough evidence then your case will be put forward to the CPS

If you refuse, then ultimately a sample can be obtained forcibly!

All prints taken on a Livescan machine are checked against the UIDB (Unidentified Marks Database),
although not usually when the suspect is in custody.
As said, if there is a match, further investigation will be carried out.
And yes, they can force you to have your prints taken.
(No, I'm not a copper!)

Actually the government are calling for all motorists stopped by police or "done" for speeding to have to have prints and DNA taken.
They have gone a bit quiet on this for a while now just because I think the logistics put them off. Remember their target is for 3,000,000 speeding tickets this year.
You will provide your prints and DNA and, unfortunately, once arrested you will tick the "YES" box on all the official forms you get for credit, travel etc. etc. which ask "Have you ever been arrested?" You will also need a visa to get into countries such as the USA.
Not a very nice way to treat someone who may not actually be guilty of anything is it?

Ah but if you've been done for speeding, you are already guilty of the most heinous crime imaginable

They will take prints, etc. if you're arrested. However, unless you are subsequently convicted all records should be destroyed. Mine were. I hope. I bet they weren't. Bast*rds.

Chaos - The easiest thing to do is put superglue on your fingertips and stick them to a sheet of something really really smooth (glass is good.) When you pull them off your fingerprints stay on the glass and you have no prints. (Only do one hand at a time or you will end up in casualty trying to get them removed)

Being arrested doesn't mean they will fingerprint you. It is possible to be arrested and released without charge from the police station. In this case fingerprints are not taken. Apparently.

Dunno why we arent all finger printed. think of how many extra rapeists/murderers etc... would be caught.

once your charged witha recordable offence, you will be told by the custody officer that you will be having your fingerprints, dna and photo taken. as for not ever giving your fingerprints, never ever, you'll be asked nicely once, but you WILL have your fingerprints taken. and there will be lots of volunteers in a nick ready to lend a hand with a stroppy prisoner.

S'pose you could always file under copyright your fingerprints and DNA!
That way, although the information would be publically available - their use would be restricted without your prior permission
