DVLA suffix plate auctions
Has anyone tried getting the DVLA to issue a suffix plate that doesn't currently exist? they will do so, butit goes into a queue that can take up to 18 months and then it goes to auction. They would not explain how the selection process works.
My guess is that they have to think it will make money so if lots of people register an interest in a specific plate it will get selected first?
Anyone else in the same situation as me, anyone have any better information or how I could push it up the queue a bit?

I bought a plate that didn't previously exist from the DVLA.
I emailed them in 2001, got a reply saying they hadn't released the plate but might do in years to come.
In 2002 i chased them up and got the reply saying them may release the plate for auction sometime in the future.
In Jan 2003 i started an email campaign by emailing them every month until i got the reply saying the plate would be released for aution in 6 months.
Feb 2004 i bought the plate at auction for £250 + fees, transfer and VAT. (total around £500 iirc).
I now own a plate that spells my name.
Started a new campaign for another three plates in the summer last year. Fingers crossed.
Best of luck getting what you want.
Thanks
James

I wonder if they'd release it quicker if more people registered their interest? Here is my plan...
I run something like a group buy. Don't post your plate ideas publically because some git might think it's a good idea and outbid you, just sign up in this thread. By doing so, you agree not to nick anyone else's plate if they thought of it first. Let them get it at auction for as low as possible.
Whenever we close it, PM me the plates you're after, I'll collect them and PM them out to all the others, we then go onto the DVLA site, or ring them up and register an interest in all the plates. It's not EBay so there's no obligation to turn up and buy the things! this will make the DVLA think they stand to make money so will bump it up the queue.
Anyone up for it?

I'm guessing that they are in it to make as much money as possible, however. It's worth a go either way
