Can't see what your problem is - it's in a residential street FFS! Anyone speeding there deserves to have the book thrown at them.

Sorry, I forgot about that!

I wonder if my not speeding in residential areas has had any impact on my having a clean license despite doing 30,000 miles a year - and hence being able to afford to insure a really nice, fast car?

Well lets face it, how **** is it now to be a copper, a little **** nicks your hard earned scubi, drives it around the neighbourhood as fast as he can, no insurance, no licence, previous history.....and when they catch em, they cant do jack!!!..................................hence why they do this to the law abiding, tax paying, hard working, police respecting decent folk.

A mate at work was pulled on a dual carriageway in Wakefield for doing 39mph, no schools, public or owt, he also did not have a clue that the DUAL CARRIAGEWAY!!! was a 30 limit, he begged, pleaded the lot, but they said he should have known that as the lamp posts are less than 200m apart it is a 30mph area. Clearly the jumped up **** of a copper new this was a speeding hotbed and elects to operate this area daily!

I didn't think you were allowed to hide behind objects like that with a gun? Thought they had to be visible (or a reasonable interpretation of it anyway)?

/flamesuit on
Personally I see no problem with Police hiding etc. If you are speeding then you deserve to get slapped (barring a v.good excuse eg. hospital run with relative bleeding out on the back seat etc.) Why should you get upset when you are punished for breaking the law??

Just my 2p worth ... and remember: indecision is the key to flexability

I agree with you, to a degree Not flaming you but apparrently Road Safety experts disagree

By accident I came across some stuff on Road safety mentioned the reasons for "Visable deterants". I'll see if I can dig it out. Fiquires maybe very iffy But went something like this-:

Imagine 1000 cars past a sneaky Copper, 20 are nicked only those would be aware of him being there, when summons arrives in Post. only 10% learn anything and nobody knew Speed enforcement checks are being done

Yet if he had been fairly visable only 4 may have been caught (mainly the excessive speed ones) the 16 who had a close call and could reflect on it. and the other 980 would have a reminder WHY they had keep to the limit. 90% learn something and 100% would know he was there.

IIRC

..this bit I have trouble with, my personal bias here, but I have the feeling the majority who speed and have a close call just smile and think 'Got away with it' and proceed to speed on regardless ... or at best 15 seconds and two corners later aka 'out of sight out of mind'

Please don't get me wrong ... I regularly break speed limits in the scoob (lets be honest it's almost impossible not to), but when doing so I accept that if Mr.Plod pulls me over it's a fair cop Guv (irrespective of whether I'm doing 35 in a 30 or 85 on the motorway or he's hiding behind a group of OAP's waiting for a bus and handing out free laser eye treatments).

If you're not speeding (you know - breaking the law) then you have no cause for concern.

Why is it almost impossible not to speed in a Scooby. It does have a very flexible engine?

Having been "scoped" by Mr Plod on the M40 a couple of times. There is a good reason for traffic police being visible when performing their duties. It's said that 80% of people speed at some time and if you don't notice a brightly coloured bloke pointing something at your car, then you're A) not paying enough attention and B) if you get an NIP, were speeding anyway.

I read an article by a PC who drove range rovers on the M'way. His attitude was that if you whizzed past at great speed then you deserved to get nicked either as a p*ss taker or someone who wasn't paying enough attention to notice and slow down in time.

There is no law which insists that cameras or police must be visable, though it is a part of the ACPO guidelines. However, these guidelines are not fully in keeping with the target to issue 3,000,000 tickets this year and so a lot of sneaking about is necessary to ensure that this target is met. Guidelines are there to be, well, ignored.

I think the big "Crimestoppers" sign on the back of the car is very ironic as this bloke probably hasn't stopped a real crime, with a real victim, in all his time in the force. Not his fault really, poor bloke, just doing his job parking the car out of sight and skulking behind a bus shelter.

To think that police drivers used to be sent to Hendon to learn to drive. Now I guess they are sent to the back yard for half an hour to have a *** and learn how to skulk.

But Tony,

When the police are trying to be visible to you, you try to run em over!!!

No wonder they come round your house
