I have Sony Receiver for my Home Cinema set up at present but it isnt working that well and I thought I might upgrade it. But it isnt as simple as I thought and there now seems a big difference between Digital and Analogue Amps - but what practically is the difference in everyday use ? and are they worth buying ? I am looking at the latest Panasonic SAXR70 compared to Yamaha dsp-750SE. (and no I dont really need the radio).
Can anybody give some help ?

Denon are quite highly rated. I have a Marantz SR4400 which does the job nicely ![Smile](https://www.scoobynet.com/images/smilies/smile.gif)
Have a look here for some previous discussion
Simple thing is, how much can you afford and how good do you want it to sound?

I recently bought a Denon 2805 amp, and I can honestly say it completely blows my old Sony (a 930) amp out of the water, both in terms of connections / usability, and especially the in the sound quality department. Makes the old amp sound really muddy in comparison...I'd definitely recommend including Denon in the list of amps to look at / listen to

When you say 'it isn't working that well', what do you mean? Is it set up correctly? No point splashing out on new equipment if your current one does the job with a few tweaks.

True digial amps, that is amps that do amplification in the digital domain, are still very expensive. Sony's digital amp the DA9000ES is over £2000
Any decent new amp is going to have analogue and digital inputs and a range surround formats.
I still have a Sony 930 but I'm currently running a Denon 3805 which is a massive step up from the Sony.
You would be wise trying a few dealers and having a listen, and try some of the cheaper Denon's while you are there.
Cheers
