Dog fights
For those of you that have a dog and regularly take your dog for a walk in a public park or common etc, has your dog ever been involved in a fight?
My 8yr old Springer got picked on a few weeks ago by two labradors and a fierce fight broke out which took a while to break up. Thankfully no damage was done just a lot of noise and saliva flyinh about
Now when ever I take him out and he see's another dog he gets all aggressive and starts trying it on, ie- picking a fight.
I am getting fed up with worrying about bumping into other dogs and their owners so have unfortunately been taking him out on the lead for the last week just in case.
Does anyone have any advice on how I can train him not to be scared of other dogs or is he scarred for life?
He is a lovely dog at home and never been involved in any fights before, Springers are generally good natured but I can't understand why he's like this now.

Has he been castrated 
This definitely helps, but may be a bit late at his age!
My dog was attacked by three Alsatians when he was a puppy and since then has always decided to attack them first and ask questions later! He's fine with all other breeds, but I guess he thinks it's better to take them by surprise - so far it seems to be working

yes my dog "**** sue"
thinks hes dead tough takes on bigger dogs,
the dogs pin him down,
the owner will pull their dog away whilst mine will still be barking like an idiot
probably saying
"yeah if it wasn't for your owner pulling you away, I'll take you down, "

My dogs are very tempramental at times.
Kobe (far left) had meningitis a couple of times when he was younger and since then has been a little .....weird. Despite being the biggest and most powerful out of them all he is the one that gets picked on all the time. He has several rips in one of his ears and jowels due to being attacked by the other 2
The last was just a few days ago. The wife started screaming I ran down in to the kitchen go see blood all over the place 
and once they start on eachother only a good kick will get them appart (both been done so no nuts to squeeze)
When out on their own for a walk they are fine when they see other dogs however as a gang they just want a go all the time !! Its not that they are not used to other dogs as they are regularly at classes ect but never all together.
If you know someone who has another dog that he doesnt get on with you could walk him back and forward past the dog and use a choker collar to "correct" his behaviour. Do this a few dozen times. Correct when bad reward when good is the best way to deal with it.
Just thank your lucky stars its not a brainless 28kg lump you have on the end of the lead ....or indeed 3 of the *******

Ay 8 years old it's a tough job you've got on your hands.
I have a Stafford, but unlike many other dogs they have the ancestory, and ability to forget bad incidents.
They will rarely start a fight but normally finish it.
I suggest walking him away from other dogs for the time being to try and
bring him round.

Our Border Collie(bitch) is a right little ******, with tan coloured dogs. She was attacted by a lercher when she was young, they just don't forget. Every dog that colour in the village is terrified of her. Although I do think most collies have some kind on superiority complex.
This is her about to bully me mates male lab, who weighs twice as much.
At the end of the day dogs are dogs and they will fight, as a owner you've just got to look for the signs and keep them in check. Most of the time is harmless bravado anyway.

Your going to have a tough time with him now. Mine got attacked just after I got him as a rescue when he'd been starved etc and really looked pathetic.
He never gets picked on now - I don't know why.

aaaw them boxers r soo cute!
My bitch charlie is like that totally aggressive 2 other dogs but only cos i think shes a totally protective muma n our male *lubo* is a fairy but built like a bulldog gone wrong!
charlie is recovering from a cruciate op n not doing well but heres hopin the baby recovers. We are packs 2 our dogs n they protect us as they see fit hence no mountain rescue cats, guide cats for the blind/deaf - cats are 2 selfish

oh hehe not! my dogs r my babies n amoung them r rescue doggies who've bin treated like **** - lurcher/whippet crosses - starved toenails round their ears n covered in fleas -nice!

Danny - if you are concerned about your your dog's behaviour, go and see your vet and have a chat about seeing an animal psychologist or book some behavourial lessons. Animals can suffer trauma just like humans do and it can seriously affect them.

There's nothing worse than a pain in the **** aggressive dog that wants to fight in the park all the time so get a chap out mate. I got a dog trainer out for a few hours to help us train mine as a pup - extremely effective and worthwhile.
Springers are normally fab & fun and want to play not fight - its the admittedly uber smart GSD's that often want to azzert zere zuperiority I find. I now tend to avoid them if I can after mine had to sort one particularly bossy one out (he clearly felt he owned ze park but got told otherwise by a lonmg coated hairy OES panzy (well it insulates from bites!)) - however just cant be doing with scraps in what is supposed to be a relaxing walk in the park!
Having said that I find 99% of dogs in the park (and 90% of GSD's) are socialised and fine. However if a bit of a 'disco' and snarling startsI bellow STOP IT as deeply, loudly and manly as you can, and that works half the time

No sadly............... we have a couple coming from Boxer rescue tomorrow to vet us, so fingers crossed, but we will still keep looking.
