Thank you once again to everyone who helped me and came with me.

The last phase now will, I know, not be easy but I know that I will be looked after as I always have been.

I will end with a plea. I still have no idea why I ended up with a cancer, but plenty of other cancer patients know what made them ill.

If two or three people stop smoking as a result of anything I have ever written then the one of them who would have got cancer will live and all my scribblings will have been worthwhile.

hes very brave, i read this a few months ago and was touched by it then, ive just read the rest ive laughed and cried, he is so brave!

Might I suggest anyone out there that smokes and has a wish to quit (and live) reads this as I think it may just save your life!

Thats really moving as I'd not seen it before. Well worth reading not just as a smoking thing but as a great attitude and outlook on life. I lost my mother last year to cancer and the diary puts into words the struggle and bravery a lot of people show.

I've been following this from the start, and Ivan's bravery and humour really put normal every day gripes into perspective.

He certainly raged against the dying of the light and gave me back some of my faith in the human race that had begun to go missing.

He is trying to let the intelligent amongst us know what will happen if we continue to smoke .............. continue and your life will be taken before it needs to be!

Take his message and act or don't and die early - its up to you ..... but there is no need to speak light of his words in his hour of most need!

Do intelligent people smoke?

Nahhhh...... You have to have a bit of air getting in if you smoke. If I said - "don't point that gun at your head and pull the trigger, it has 2 bullets in 6 chambers" you would think that only a complete fruitcake would try it. The odds of survival are about the same for smoking, so the logic says, only a fruitcake would try it
