Default Import Duty/VAT

Does anyone here know what the deal is with import duty/VAT (% etc).

I'm thinking of importing a CAI and some other car parts from the States (as I can't get what I want here) but don't know whether I will have to pay duty and VAT or just the duty. I tried looking on the HM website but it's not particularly user friendly (well not for a dumb *** like me anyway)

Any help would be muchos appreciated.

10% of value
then 17.5% of new total

Probably plus handling charge, depending on who delivers it to you.

It may have changed since my day, but duty wasn't a fixed amount, it varied depending on the goods. We used to have reams of paper listing every imaginable item then the amount of duty as a percentage depending on where the goods came from. I would have "thought" the electronic equivalent may be available these days, or as above they may now have a flat rate.

Thumbs up

Much appreciated guys.

I was looking for a % of the item cost so I can't go far wrong if I add 30% to the item + shipping. Anything less will be a bonus

Thanks again for the help
