It simply defies any logic why people behave in this manner....is it simply materialistic people venting their lust for material wealth??

Personally I find it disgusting that people will go to these lengths to get a 'bargain' ............

This behaviour is evident every day in the UK, people fighting over petty parking spaces, over queues, over minor disputes amongst neighbours...

What has gone wrong with people to behave like such money crazed morons?

I simply cant understand why people behave so selfishly....

There was mass advertising for the event. It's Ikea's own fault, what did they expect?
They said those sofas would be available between midnight and 3am. Anyone reading that would have believed there was going to be thousands of them available.

GSM1...the Hajj is somewhat different....there are several MILLION people there, and not a great deal of space.....besides which its hardly analogous as those on hajj arent there for materialistic gain....

My point of the original thread was simply wondering why people are so greedy for crap that they will go and stab each other etc....

You'll find most animals will behave in this manner if there all try to get somewhere or something. Sheep will crush and trample over each other to get food, wildebeest will tranple over each other when crossing a river, cattle will squash through a tight gate to get the other side of it and humans will crush each other to get a bargain! Just shows how primative we can be doesn't it, when it concerns our most tresured goal in life........MONEY.

Those of us with no debt await the crash with interest, but I think that those manipulating the system will arrange things such that it won't happen. They are very conscious of recent history.

You read about this sort of thing more and more. In the states they have had riots at the sales in places like bloomingdales.

I am thankful for the genes that make me want to AVOID Ikea at all costs on ANY night, let alone opening night. In fact anywhere where loads of people want to be is precisely where I do NOT want to be!!!

I actually really enjoy shopping at midnight or in the small hours of the morning, but thats me doing my daily food shopping in the local supermarkets. I cant stand crowds, so midnight shopping is ideal as I have the place to myself!

As to the Ikea thing, Ive never been inside an Ikea in my life but I assume there is absolutely nothing there to interest me enough to actually go to one, let alone queue up for the grand opening!

Up here the local Big W closed down recently. On the last few days, they were selling the stock off really cheaply, although seemingly there wasnt much of anything decent left. Seemingly there were people fighting over allsorts like boxes of boxes of Fererro Rochier (sp?) just because they were so cheap!

For those who ask why I was at B&Q on saturday...well I ran out of fecking no.8 1.5" woodscrews which I needed to finish off some work and my usual cheap, civilised and quiet trade shop was shut for the weekend
