That whole area is very very nice, ex GF's family had a farm near Blairgowrie.
There is (or was IIRC) a stretch of road in Perth known as the magic mile and has a fair number of main dealers on it so work stuff may have opportunities

I've lived in Perth all my life. Great town. Easy access to anywhere in Scotland. House prices aren't too bad, just depends what you're looking for.
Any advice on estate agents or jobs give me a shout. I know a couple of people who work in garages on the 'Motor Mile'.

Almondbank, Luncarty, Stanley all nice wee places within 5 or so miles from the centre.
Dearer there but knowing people whom have moved up from down your way you will get a nice house for what will seem comparitively (sp) good money.

I'm from Perth.. not lived there for years but go back and visit my folks all the time..
Don't know if I could live there though.. Suppose its a nicer place to bring up kids if you've got any...
Plus insurance costs peanuts there... I've done online quotes using my folks postcode and its about a third of what I pay in Manchester...

Nardoblue - I am originally from near Leicester, I moved up to Blairgowrie (20 mins north of Perth) 5 years ago. Perth is a great town surrounded by beautiful countryside. As has been said the Dunkeld road is known as the motor mile as almost every car manufaturer is represented on there from Citroen to Vauxhall and Land Rover to BMW. Staying in the center of Perth would be expensive compared to being 15 - 20 mins out of Perth. That said moving from Oxford the price of houses here will be nothing to you
I have never met such a bunch of friendly people (the scots in general) and everyone is always willing to stop and have a chat with you. The pace of life here somehow feels a lot slower than down south, the air is cleaner, there is far less traffic, there are far fewer speed cameras and traffic police. Generaly quality of life is far higher.
The negatives -
It is colder (soon get used to that, in fact the weather isn't as bad as people say)
If you ever want to move back south and haven't saved the money you make when you move up, you will find it financially difficult.
That said I love it up here and have never looked back since I moved here, I don't know why you are thinking about it, just do it

Perth is a beautiful city, Perthshire is a beautiful county with an incredible variety of scenery and some fantastic roads - too many to mention! Plenty of nice places to stay in the area - even the likes of Crieff and Comrie are but a short blast away

I love Perth!
We stayed at the Huntingtower Hotel a few weeks ago one weekend, it's gorgeous up there!
<hijack>
Is there an online property search facility for Perth, like Edinburgh's ESPC (www.espc.co.uk, Edinburgh Solicitors Property Centre)?
