Q. Dark Side of the Moon - Biggest pile of w4ank ever recorded?
As above, and sort of hijacked from the favourite intro thread, but never in the history of music have I been so disappointed with a piece of music, which is considered by many to be a seminal work of art.
For years I read & heard people banging on about how fantastic it is, I really thought I was missing out on something great. I've picked it up in record shops before now and nearly bought it, but then something else has caught my eye & I've put it back, but in this modern age I finally got round to 'ahem' auditioning it....OMFG what a load of shiiite
I was really disappointed, I *really* wanted to like it, I even gave it the benefit of the doubt and listened to it a few times, but no - its not for me...
Anybody else agree or am I the only one? (pleeease don't tell me I'm the only one)

I'm with the good Doctor on this one. Must be missing something in amongst the screaming and wailing, but it just sounds like the soundtrack to a Bodyform ad to me.

Possibly the most amazing live performance ive ever seen was DSOTM. Cant remember the girls name who did the vocals, but to say it left the hairs on the back of my neck on end is an understatement.
I wanted to enjoy last nights Favourite Number Ones programme, but when number 40 was Gareth Gates, my heart sank. WTF??

the top 10 were reasonable though.
can't believe every breath you take is the national anthem in 3 states!
Probably police states.
can't believe some others think it is a love song and made them emotional playing it at their wedding.
When all along it is a sick song about a stalker! classic!

I'm not a massive PF fan, certainly their early stuff, such as Bike and Arnold Lane is not to my taste. DSOTM is rather good though, as is The Wall and The Division Bell.
Have to say that "Wish you were here" and "Comfortably Numb" are certainly in my top 10 list of best songs.
All about personal taste.
Anne,
Would you perchance be referring to the Pulse concert, circa mid 90's? If so then if I recall correctly, the girl singing on "Great Gig in the Sky" was Sam Brown. Can't recall who did the original though.

Gotta disagree with the good Dr. I've DSOTM in the 6slot at the moment. Never thought of it as something to listen to in the car, but today thought what the hell!!
I agree that it's all personal taste though...
What I DO find interesting is that nobody has mentioned the Wizard of Oz yet!!!!!

Hmmm...
The Wall is THE PF album in my book.... never really had much time for them otherwise ... VERY MUCH a band of the 70s IMHO and I'm a child (ok late teenager) of the 80s. Can listen to DSOTM and have it in my collection somewhere but wouldn't go running to get it out...
Now.... RUSH....there's a different story.... I am a Rush ***** and would follow them to the ends of the earth ..... 6,000 tracks on my iPod and 90% of the time its a rush track playing (followed by 9% Seal then .9% Aqua and Barbie Girl )
I was at Rush's recent 30th anniversary tour (Manchester MEN arena) centre stage 3rd row!!!!!!! I could have touched all three of em and in fact my mate stood next to me got one of Alex Lifeson's plectrums right between the eyes when he flicked it into the audience Never mind hairs standing on the back of my neck.... I couldn't hear properly for 3 weeks after that
Paul
PS Quite partial to a bit of Jethro Tull too......

*and they all agreed it was their finest work* Everything that came after was a gentle decline from that lofty pinnacle of achievement.
