Samsung are generally regarded as a low cost, low quality brand where flat panels are concerned so may be better to hold off a bit for one of the better brands.

but this one is HDmi... and thats the way to go
other HDmi tv's are £2500+
£350 on a 5 yr warranty.. if it packs up it gets changed
and looking at this price of only £1400 if it only lasts 5 years i'm ok with that as i'd change after that anyway
PaulR... CTR tv's are DEEP at the back.... i want something flat... and also something I don't have to sit directly infront of, as rear projection look dark if you look across them or if you don't sit in front of it its not a clear pic

Phil,
Have you looked at the new Samsung rear projection SP50L7HX. Lot of folks on the AV forums are raving about the new rear projection technology. I saw one in Makro and thought it was Plasma or LCD as it was so thin. Picture was astounding. This model is £2,400'ish

SAGEM AXIUM DLP HD-D45
I recently seen this on display with HD-DVD? Demo and was blown away with PQ. Definately most impressive TV pic I've ever seen. Fair enough that Sky & DVD may not be any better than CRT's but it's HDMI future proof. And £1995 with 5yr gaurantee although stand is £350 (that's putting me off as my max budget is £2k) The £5k 50" Pioneer Plasma it was next to looked pathetic (albeit through a shared dvd input-signal).

HDTV may be the way to go in a couple of years and yes it will help you to have a tv with a HDMI input but if it is a rubbish panel this won't mean anything.
Just my 2p!

Phil, you may want to consider the newer rear projection models, which are cheaper than similar sized plasma or LCD screens. They are quite flat (i.e.thin)and the picture quality is brilliant. Samsung uses the DLP (Digital light processor) chip from Texas Instrument while Sony has a range using 3 LCD panels. They are basically home theatre projectors modified to rear-projection format, which makes them cheaper to make than plasma or LCD.

This new Toshiba is the one I would buy, if I was ready for a new TV that is! I have a 17" Tosh LCD for the bedroom and the picture is great, even with just an RF feed.

Phil - take a look on www.avforums.com for lots of info on all sorts of home cinema stuff, including flat panels.
I bought a Philips 9976 32" LCD after reading lots of info and reviews at AV Forums. Cracking good set - for under £1300 with Empire direct. DVI input.

Looked at one today in Currys.
I have a Sharp and I'm not sure how much I paid for the brand..... But the samsung looked very good.
Picture quality was fine, not brilliant, but quite good enough.
But the price was the most impressive feature.
Looked like a good deal to me.

To be honest I wouldnt trust any picture you see in currys/dixons etc. best bet is to go into a specialist shop and get a proper demo of the equipement you like, take a couple of your own DVD's to get a feel of it.....
if you would like osmething bigger you could always go for the Panasonic 37" PW7... its an AV geeks favorite at the mo. should be able to pick it up @ £1200ish HDmi ready too....

Because of numerous reasons, you could watch 3 plasmas lined up together all playing the same DVD and call them cr@p yet you'd be forgetting the source is split 3 ways onto 3 different plasmas, hence reducing the PQ recieved. Secondly its common for people to try and influence a plasmas PQ but force feeding it HDTV via a set top box as such.... making it look better than its capable off without added extras.
Generally when u visit Currys they'll all be playing BBC news or something but the feed is split between all the tellys giving a worse PQ. also bearing in mind all Plasmas are factory set with Contrast and Brightness set to max and in dynamic mode which will reduce your plasma from a capable 60k hours useage time to 15k hours. bearing this in mind the majoirty of plasma owners will reduce the contrast and brightness but losing some PQ. the plassys are set up for in store lighting and will look totally different once you get it home in your house with the lights off etc....
Just my 2p's worth

thats tue... how many times you seen a TV pic in a Currys etc and its fuzzy.... its not that the TV's cr@p its just that the Arial etc is fitted too good and the TV''s not set up.
wen i was looking at the Samsund the guy showing it me said.. that pic is rubbish.. its not been set up yet (i thought it looked preety good0 by the time he's had a fiddle with te wires at the back and the settings it looked even better.
