It happen's all the time unfortunately, i had three motorcycle's stolen many year's ago, they caught the guy (15 year's old), they took him to court, he pleaded guilty with another 280 offence's taken into consideration, and all he got was a fine (of about £100 i think), but i know where he live's, and it was a LONG time ago, but i have'nt forgotten it, but he probably has.... It will all come as big shock to him when i go and visit one DARK night.

Yup, this kind of thing happens on a daily basis in our courts....the prisons are full so people who deserve to be going to prison simply arnt being sent there.....but thats not the real issue.....I guess its to do with the complete breakdown of the moral fabric of society that there are so many criminals out there in the first place....

The Courts just dont sentance people harshly enough.

I'm going to have to ask, do you now think this was our fault he walked out of court?
No mate we don't wonder at all, you may want to see these people locked up for a good deal of time. But I can guarantee you not half as much as we do.
I get sick of arresting the same people over and over again. It's no wonder people get fed up with it.
On the other thread you posted on this subject http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/showthread.php?t=410395
you said......
They obviously were keen to get them and they secured a conviction. Unfortunately we have no control over sentencing at the courts. Until this country starts to lock people up for years at a time to stop them commiting crime, people are going to keep doing it. Knowing they will just get let off at court when they dress smart and pretend to show remorse.

Nathan,
No Way mate, I would hate to beleive what went through the officers mind when the judge passed sentence, These 4 guys were doing up to 10 cars a night and stealing anything they could lay their hands on just to feed their drug habit, Can I point out at no time did I say the police were not doing their job, the guys that came to our house were superb, but yet again the justice system has let us down, It must be heart braking for you guys to think you have nailed a scum bag, yet for him to walk free
Cheers
Colin

Sorry about that, I didn't think you were but wanted to make sure.
It does break our hearts mate. As I said I get sick of arresting the same people over and over.
At the end of the day if they locked these people up for 10-20 years at a time, as they would do elsewhere in the world they wouldn't commit crime again. As they would be too afraid of going back in and coming back out with no lead left in their pencil
If they did come out and commit crime again they should throw away the key. The problem is then solved.
People say keeping people in prison is too expensive.
All I say to that is Bollocks.
If everyone went to prison then there would be far less crime, which we the taxpayer get the bill for. So there would be more money to keep them there. Insurance policies would fall and everyone would be better off.
Maybe I need to be Prime Minister. First thing on the agenda, lock all these bar-stewards up for 10-20 years plus.

It's all these liberal human bloody rights do gooders faults. Prison is also a joke, they get more of everything in there than they do on the streets.
Chop their hands off - simple solution.

The public need to hear you Nathan - what you said is far more important than labour or any quango's ongoing spin on crime! Alos all you guys' hard 'front-line' work is so often undone by the 'cookie' perception of some of the chief constables in this country.
The perspective on REAL issues of crime has gone haywire here - middle classes fed up of being bullied by the government and 'financial' crimes get penalised far harder than true anti-society activitioes and violence
