I used to work for Airbus and BAE (my brother still works for Airbus) and all I can say is... too many eggs in one basket!
It should be landing in about 20 mins or so...what goes up must come down!

Apart from wingspan its not actually that much bigger than a 747-400. And even that wont really be noticeable from the ground.
A380-800 dimensions
Wingspan 261ft 10in,
length 239ft 6in,
Height 79ft 1in
Boeing 747-400
Wingspan 211 feet 5 inches
Length: 231 feet 10 inches
Height: 63 feet 8 inches
Where it is bigger significantly bigger is in the girth of the fuselage. I like the comment on the Sky new website that is was "markedly quieter on take-off than other aircraft leaving the airport". Looks like Airbus/RR really have made improvements in noise that they were claiming. Hopefully the arrivals noise will show similar improvements.
For anyone interested it will be going to Paris in June, or for those who have an aversion to the French, a proving flight to LHR is currently scheduled for Sept!
Me, I'm trying to blag a flight when it does its noise certification tests.

I don't know where or what this story is about but unliveried A380's have been buzzing past my old office in France for a few months now.
Last time I was there I watched one at very close range and I can tell you that it does NOT look like it should be flying. Very impressive.
Less impressive will be when one crashes with over 500 people on board.

Just read the reports saying this was the maiden flight- I'm now very confused.
How many double deck jumbo's are there? How on earth could I have seen one flying if it's never taken off before?

It wasn't just me having the "delusion" last time I saw it I was on the road to work and I joined a whole bunch of people who had stopped their cars to watch it.
My old office was about 200km from Toulouse and we often saw strange looking aircraft on fly pasts.
Could have been a 747 "stretched" (never heard of that) but the thing I saw was massive.
How very odd.

Got me wondering now, just been on the phone to a collegue who confirms that what was buzzing the office for the last few months was NOT the A380.
What it was is a mystery. An unliveried 747 sized commercial looking aircraft with a hugely bulbous front end and bloated body (which on closer examination of the pics on BBC's website was not an A380). He reckons it was a prototype of some kind but what????

There must be Plane spotters on SN who can tell you what it was ...

Wonder why it was unliveried though, it also didn't look quite like the one's on the airbus website.
In any case mystery solved and mind put at rest that I'm not delusional. Well about planes anyway.
