You do realise what your doing is illegal!
Sirens and Police lights can only be bought from the suppliers with an official letter from a Police Authority. Unlucky!

Wouldn't want to get caught by a copper though if I had one attached

I have to admit, I laughed out loud when I read this. Because I thought you were joking...
Do you have some kind of mental problem that stops you from being able to think through the implications of your actions? And what do you intend to do for an encore, pull out your truncheon and give your chums a good beating?

If i'm not mistaken its an offence to even have blue lights fitted on your car never mind using them on the road. There's plenty of ways to have a laugh with your car that don't involve impersonating a police officer.

It's not illegal to have these lights or sirens fitted to your car, despite what Cyprus says (think we've had a "discussion" about this before mate....I too am a Police Officer!)
It does however become an offence should you use either these lights or siren on the road or in a public place.
The only offence regarding lights is showing red light to the front...or displaying white to the rear (other than when reversing).
You open yourself up to a whole heap of other allegations if you are seen using these by other people (in particular I draw your attention to a recent case I am aware of where a female was pulled over by a "Police car" to discover it was a man who attacked her)

If I caught you using them on the highway I would go for a lock up, impersonating BiB.
Police Act 1996:
90. - (1) Any person who with intent to deceive impersonates a member of a police force or special constable, or makes any statement or does any act calculated falsely to suggest that he is such a member or constable, shall be guilty of an offence and liable on summary conviction to imprisonment for a term not exceeding six months or to a fine not exceeding level 5 on the standard scale, or to both.
Also some RVL regs that your flashing lights would come under..
Road Vehicle Lighting Regs 1989 Part II Section 13
Lamps to show a steady light
13.—(1) Save as provided in paragraph (2), no vehicle shall be fitted with a lamp which automatically emits a flashing light.
Please not the wording.... "fitted" not "use". So the fact you have fitted your car with these lights means your liable to prosection.

I'm not sure I getthe joke anyway.. Surely your mates would recognise your car?
Sounds to me like the kind of thing a forward-thinking pair of car-jackers would try as a ploy to get motorists to pull over and get out of their car.

A few years ago my brother got stopped for a routien stop check. Unfortunately he had a police uniform in the boot from a fancy dress he'd been to a few day's before and had just left it in the boot (forgot..!).
The problem was their had been recent reports of someone impersonating a PO and trying to stop cars (bear in mind this was 25-30yrs ago..!). So not believeing his story he spent the night in a cell. Released without charge next day, however there was a 'record' of this incident kept on file..!
Now today, with the amount of problems with people impersonating a PO and crime associated with it, can you imagine what you'd get for having blue lights, never mind a siren on your car..!!!
Surely this is a wind up..?
Jason
PS My brother never got the uniform back either and he'd spent ages making it..!

By having blue lights/ siren fitted doesn't mean you are impersonating a policeman. There's loads of unmarked Ambulance cars with lights and sirens in use with Tees, East and North Yorkshire Ambulance Service. Generally they used by the Officers and training school but they quite often attend normal 999 emergencies if they are closest!
A note to CyprusScooby, it isn't illegal to purchase or fit these items but as it's been said it is illegal to use them in a public place unless you are an emergency service worker and responding to an emergency.
They can be bought quite legally from a number of places like this for example.
