Thumbs up Bank holiday theme park madness..

Did Drayton Manor today to make it up to the wife and daughter as I buggered off up north yesterday for a track day

one word:
A P O C A L Y P S E

http://www.draytonmanor.co.uk/Apocalypse.aspx
bloody unreal
According to the site:
Named as "Britain's scariest ride" by The Sunday Times....
Ride Of Your Life
Takes riders to a height of 54 metres and tilts them forward at an agonising 20 degree angle as they are hoisted skyward on a half ton launch shuttle.

Then they drop at the mercy of gravity at over 4Gs

There is also a Fifth Dimension to the ride, with no footrest at all – so real thrill-seekers can hang from 54 metres with nothing to hold them but their shoulder restraints!
I did the standing version (no rest footrest was NOT available)
I'm not normally one for mad heights, but I though sod it.. left the missus-who didnt want to do it and kid queing for a smaller safer ride.
- kid is only 8 so no way for the Apocalypse

Queue'd for a bit.. lots of people bottling it as you can see it close up as you q.

Got told by a young teenage boy and girl to avoid the 'back row' as someone had lost their bladder on the run they were on with them
They even had a mop in the corner!!!!

No backing out now.
Stomach in knots.- had LOTS of adrenalin yesterday on track in my own car, also in an expertly driven scoob as a passenger and a load of PAX laps in a 360CS on maximum attack ..

  1. got on, strapped in.. started to rise- this aint bad...
  2. 50ft- ah piece of pish.. no bother..
  3. 100ft - um- feels high
  4. 120ft- oh ****. what am I doing
  5. 140ft- (justification time) it's safe.. it's a ride that runs ALL day.. god it's high
  6. At the Top. HOLY ****..
  7. just chill..
  8. Cant be any scarier than doing that bend at over a ton yesterday on 3 wheels near damn it)
  9. just dont look dowm...
(at this point the harnesses all tip forwards about 20 degrees!!!!!! )
  1. OH ****!!!!
  2. BAM!
(down it falls...)
didnt even have time to scream.
was the biggest fix of the weekend.
an utter moment of freefall madness..

QUALITY

If you put/let your kids on this be VERY VERY careful what you feed them/let them drink beforehand

I thought it was worse..
Much MUCH worse (ie: scarier than oblivion)

(I think because you could see it all rushing up to you, and as you can probably tell I dont do well with heights)

Cool

just had a look; there is a new ride at alton towers called RITA- queen of speed..
peak velocity is 4.7G!!! OMFG

also the site says the oblivion is 4.5G - so more than the above ride.. wierd.. apocalypse certainly seemed worse/faster.. mind you- had visual clues to the speed of decent.

Apparently there is an even faster coaster coming to Thorpe Park this summer sweet

having said that- if money is no object:
THIS might be the DADDY!?

Height- 456feet
Drop: 418ft
Angle of descent: 90deg'
top speed- 128mph!

/faints..

Ah good old theme parks Best time to go is during a weekday when its raining lol.
Never queued more than 10 mins for Oblivion. You go past some points up to entrances where it says 2 hours queue from here

Ive heard of people queueing for 3 hours and more for some rides at AT

Madness!

Will have to take a run up there in the next few weeks, not been for a year.
