Seems like Labour was the biggest loser overall, they lost a bunch of seats and have a much reduced margin. Also only 36% percent of the vote, surely thats not good news.

LOL

No one, not even the majority of those of us who chose to vote something other than labour expected Blair not to win.

To lose, what, 100 seats is nothing to shout about.

I can't respect anyone who has to quote 'The Fast and the Furious' to back up a point.

I'm failing to see how "Labour are the losers" as I've read in a few posts on here, even if their majority went down - its still higher than the rest!

It may have been low brow, but it made a point and provoked a response; quod erat demonstrandum.

Looked like Labour WON to me??

If they were so unpopular, guess what would have happened? YES< they would have LOST ..... but, they didn't!

Are all Tory supporters thick?????

The Tories do need to find a new leader.

As this election has proved for the third time, the leading personality is possibly the single biggest influence on many people's decisions, particularly amongst those who can't understand, or don't want to understand, what the policies are all about.

Good point Tel

Yes, pete, Blair "won", but do not have the support of the majority of the voting public.

They got MORE support than your beloved TORIES!!

36% is it??

Tories got 33% .... the SAME as last time!! PATHETIC!!

How the hell a supposedly unpopular government isnt thrashed is beyond comprehension.

ScoobyNet Tories are completely out-of-touch with whats happening around them

pslewis - It was inevitable that Labour would win this election, as a "Scoobynet Tory" I was never in doubt of that.

However, the result was about as good as I could have expected. It was almost damning to Blair and his government.

It's called the political circle. A party gains power and their majority diminishes with each election until the power swings. Then, in time it does a full circle. Lib Dems being the current wildcard.

It's down to the blatant fickle nature of the ill informed in this country (much of the electorate). The people that are totally oblivious as to what/why they are voting for. You do not fall into this category, clearly you are a strong Labour supporter - fair enough. I am a strong Conservative supporter.

It's the numpties that do not have the slightest clue what they are voting for that create this up dowm scenario with regard to government and the parties that occupy government.

Congratulations to Labour - I hope they have a succesful term.

Indeed - let's hope they take it as a wake up call and start to deliver on some of the promises they made 8 years ago.

Its the Tory infighting over the last 2 elections that cost them the 3rd. Labour should only have had a weak majority before this election, the Tory's only have themselves to blame.

The fact that Howard did'nt make as significant impression on a disgruntled electorate pretty much proves the old school tie brigade isn't the way forward either

People don't care about Iraq. The majority who voted NL don't even understand the issues concerning it. You over-estimate the electorate.

People said the same about Labour when Foot and his cronies were running the show. Yes the Tories could get back in, but they need to refocus somewhat in my opinion. I think what is more likely next time is further Lib Dem gains and further NL loss so that all 3 parties are pretty much on an even keel - that's when the "fun" really starts.

Howard needs to stay for a while, let the dust settle and then they need a fresh new face. A good public speaker with charisma that the British public will take to.

It's a sorry state of affairs isnt it that people will vot for a leader of a party based on aesthetics and how they "sound".

I do not care if they are male/female, have 3 legs and 50 fingers - as long as they can do a good job.

Hague was extrememly educated, witty, VERY quick when it came to debate and imo wouyld have made an excellent PM.......but hold on?? How could he be the PM cos he's short and balding

Nah, Northern slapheads aren't the answer. We need somebody who can turn on the charm when required, sound sincere when he isn't, seem concerned when he doesn't give a flying ****, smile cheesily to appeal to all those who don't have great command of the English language, appear personally distraught at any world event however distant, have a web of spin behind him to put a slant on failed policies, and who can promise the world without ever being able to deliver on it.

Know anyone?

Telboy is right, most can't be bothered to even try to understand what is really at stake.
