Post N.I.P advice please

I have just recieved a n.i.p through the door stating i have been caught by a mobile camera doing 81 mph on a 70 stretch dual carriagway last weekend. The form is asking for the details of the driver at the time of the incident, however i was with a friend in the vehicle and as we were on a long journey and on strange roads we were sharing the driving and aren't sure who was driving.A mate said i should just ignore the letter, but i'm not so sure, also if i get in touch with the police will they be able to send a copy of the photo so we can find out who was driving?

Any help or advice appreciated!

Some countys have the picture, certificate of calibration, the NIP and everything else on their websites. If the NIP is served correctly from one of these, you're unlikely to get away with it IMHO. They've closed all the loopholes and delays it seems. Where were you caught?

Edit: If you genuinely can not identify the driver, you are required to provide a list of the potential drivers and state so when returning the form. If you fail to do anything, they can prosecute for failing to provide the info - it is spelled out on the form.

Throw it in the bin and hope for the best. If your lucky nothing more will come of it. Worst case they will send you another in a few weeks time. Just pretend you didn't get it. If they send you another, then you will have to send it back stating who was driving.
Of course you could make some **** and bull up that you lent your car to a visitor of the country who was at another address. They will get into contact with the other address, who can then claim the person has subsequently left brittain again. It depends how badly you need to avoid the points on your lisence.

Then again, he could just ignore you instead of the letter!!

Sticking your head in the sand isn't an option!

Decide who can take the points without worry - split the fine, £30 each.

if you are a complete retard...throw it in the bin.

otherwise write and say you dont know who was driving...write that on the NIP
they will return it and say..."fill it in with a name...you should know who was at the wheel"

write back...seperate letter....and say "ok....i will take the points to keep things simple...but before i change the NIP to that effect can you just confirm its ok to tell a white lie on the NIP just to get this dealt with easily"

they will write back and say forget it.

I got caught speeding while driving my Dads car not long ago, got the NIP through and I tried all of the above and they wrote back and said 'we will issue the points to the vehicles registered keeper hence why I now have 3 points I didn't think they were able to do this but they did

Is there anything in law that stops you registering your car in your pets name? Or in your kids name?

You might come unstuck when you try to get your pet goldfish to talk to the insurance company on the phone

Yeah but if the registered keeper does not need to be the owner, can you not insure a car if you're not the registered keeper? Never tried so don't know.

I'm off to teach the goldfish to speak, shouldn't be too hard as he can already say 'BOB'. It's a start I suppose..

When I came to reinsure my classic car (86 XR4x4) the woman at the ins co told me that anyone can insure a vehicle for their use, but the registered keeper must be a named driver on the policy.

Therein lies another reason why this country should not have voted Bliar and his cronies back in. In a nutshell: We can't provide proof of who was responsible for the crime, so we'll fit somebody else up instead The Law, according to D Blunkett.

That sounds right - I insure my other half's car and I am a named driver and she is the registered owner and main driver on the policy.

I would say it is down to them to prove who was driving if you are unable to say who was at the place and time that they say.

Don't ignore the nip though, just write back and tell them that you do not know as you said and dont accept it if they try to con you by threats or incorrect statements. The burden of proof is their responsibilty.
