ebay fraud - and ebay do nothing about it...
Had a look for an ibook g4 today. Found this on ebay...
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.d...MakeTrack=true
Hmm, seller has never sold anything, and has 2 for sale through a gmail email address. Quick check of seller's other items completed and it seems bogus.
So I report my concerns to ebay through their safety centre, and get an automated mail saying that they'll do something in 24/48 hours...
The legitimate account owner is now cancelling bids because his account has been taken over.
So I report it again, and go onto live chat.
Live chat person can do nothing because "I'm not the account holder". I provide him every detail, and every bloody link where he can see that the account holder has been cancelling bids and says that he's reported the problem to ebay, but he can't act.
So, someone stands to be ripped off.
If someone does get ripped off, it rather appears to me that ebay have been grossly negligent. Their attitude stinks.
Any ideas on how to get this reformed? What can legally be done in the UK?
Cheers,
Nick.

ok i read the cancelled bids and it is iffy !! but why doesn't he just cancel the item in " my ebay " ? he must have answered one of those dodgy emails you receive to access your account for some reason or other !

Looks very iffy when you read it. You'd have to be stupid to get caught by that although people do.
I had my account hijacked about 6 months ago and if the hijackers change the email address and password the genuine owner can't do a thing. Luckily for me I contacted ebay before they changed my password. Ebay were on the case pretty quickly and my account was suspended within hours and a few days later I had it back again.

Good to hear that they can act Paul.
I've just had an email from "John Murphy" in ebay support thanking me for my vigilance...
"Thank you for your report. We have reviewed the user ID you have brought
to our attention and taken the appropriate action.
Please be assured, if a violation of eBay policy has occurred, we will
take the appropriate action in accordance with our site policies. Such
action may include issuing a warning, temporary suspension, indefinite
suspension or terminating the membership."
And the auction still runs.
RR, the bloke's account has been hacked, probably thru a phishing attempt or trojan. Ebay no longer lets you cancel auctions with less than 24 hours to go, so he can't cancel it which is why the scammer chose a 24 hour auction. All he can do is do what he's doing, which is cancel bids.
