Cool Stag Do in Amsterdam

I shall be attending one this weekend, only my 5th time over there

However, I haven't been for a few years, so things change etc, so...

recommendations for:

Places to get gear without being ripped off
Nightclubs considering 8 blokes trying to get in (Decent House music if poss)
Sex shows
Nice local place for an evening meal before going to the touristy bit
Places to avoid.

I'm sure the best man has it all in hand, but you can never have enough info...

cheers

the "coffee shops" are allowed by law to only keep a small amount on the premisses at a time so will not do deals for group orders, as you will probabaly clean them out of a certain "type".

if you go to the excalibur pub early doors and get chatting if the barman is on form he will give you the skinny on the weed situation as availiblty and quality changes often. he will also know where to get stuff in bulk, but please be aware carrying a lot on you is illegal in holland.

if you want more than puff
the globe pub had a guy working there from stoke, he knows some skinheads who run a b & B how can sort you out in a big way, but are the biggest bunch of fascist racists i didnt think people like that existed anymore.

sx shows, the famous moulin rouge, is very hard to find the real one, the ones must people go to are shop fronts which sell tickets and then lead you off to a back street show which is normally rubbish and the same price as the real moulin rouge. the real one always has a queue and is not in the centre of the rld.

Do you mean the Casa Rosa?

Famous but exceedingly tacky sex show.

weed - erm, a coffeeshop?

Edit - The rules might well have changed since I last went there, but it's not normally a challenge to buy dope in amsterdam. Try not to get completely wasted in the first 10 minutes... easily done if you're laying into fresh nederweed.

The Bluebird was always a good'un. But it might be closed.

For some reason I find the details quite hard to recall...

Talking

Make sure you pay the Heineken Brewery a visit. It's about 10 euros entry and then you get 3 beers on the way round. We managed to blag 10 each (not bad for a group of 4) because it was my mates 21st. He was even allowed to pour his own beer! The staff were spot on. There is a bar/cafe next door called something like The Don or Goodfellas (lots of pics of Marlon Brando) that does really good food.

Have fun!

Justin,

If you need ideas, give me a shout.

I've been to Amsterdam several times, including when I organised a stag do in Amsterdam as the best man.

I found the Chinese restaurant average!! Maybe I have high standards.

There is a steakhouse that someone showed me on the second floor of the Grasshopper (just outside the RLD) although I was a little wasted it seemed fine. I went back there as part of a work trip and sober the food is fantastic!!!

Baba's (through the main enterance of the RLD, with the Grasshopper on the left, walk in and at the T-junction, it's on the right hand corner) for brownies, cookies, cakes, space tea, etc! Highly recommended.

Banana Bar is fun but pay for extras Casa Rosa is cack, but they normally bundled the two venues together.

Dutch Flowers for solid.
Abraxas for chilled atmosphere (but they don't sell beer)
The Greenhouse for the hybrid stuff
Grasshopper is ok, but nothing special.
Bulldog is cack (all of them!!)
Doors closes at 3am so that's handy, but you have to love your rock music in there

If someone asks if you want "business?", politely say no thank you.

Don't bang on the windows in the RLD or take the ****, or you will get a kicking from their pimps.

Don't **** in the streets, but there are ample portable urinals that come out for the weekend.

Did the banana bar a couple of months ago.... hmmm... interesting

Be careful where you eat - we went in a 'nice little cafe' that ending up having cockroaches running around your feet, and a nice looking italian restaurant that had mice doing shuttle runs across the floor :|

That's what I mean.

You watch guys go in there and keep their wallets in their pockets and wonder why they one drink and no attention!

I am talking about the bar top show, but like all things in life, it's not free!

Yeah, I've been in the Banana Bar before, you pay by the hour IIRC and drink vouchers are thrown in

Interesting how she signed the postcard

Grasshopper has some nice pruple haze last time I went, highly recommended. Or Try coffee shop 36 for a nice selection of grass and chilled out music with a canal view.
