Unhappy Arc Eye

I didnt get any sleep on monday night, at the time i thought i either had something in it or had a welding flash. I got to work and told the shop steward, who in turn informed the manager who then moaned at me for turning in. Silly thing is i wouldve probably got moaned at for not turning in too! I went to the hospital and to my surprise i was seen to straight away! Had the usual dye put in to check for scratches etc but nothing. Followed by some painkiller drops and a few tablets and i was on my way!

Back at work they were happy for me to carry on, which is odd as last time they sent me home!!! I took the afternoon off as it was irritating me and last night it just got worse! Very awkward to blink and it just kept watering. As the night went on i was getting very sensitive to light too - must be turning lol!

I woke up this morning i just couldnt open it! Looking out the window even with my eye closed was unbearable! Ive been at home all day with all the windows covered up and the doors closed whilst wearing an eye patch (oh how im laughing!) and the bloody suns shining through the curtains and through the patch!

Ive never known anything like it, they usually only last a few hours!

Worst pain ever!!!

It's a b'astard and terrifying if you don't know what it is. I had it years ago and stilll remember the pain and thought that I had suddenly gone blind. Suddenly improved and no lasting damage. DL

They say that about lenses, but I have heard differnt stories, one that you don't weld in contacts as it can cause them to stick to your eyeballs,hmmm..... and the other is that lenses can actually help divert the flash from burning your mince pies.

I've had a flash with lenses in, they came out no problem and it hurt like a ******* b@stard, so I dunno .

Early lenses were made of a material that melted when exposed to UV light that's why they tended to recommend not wearing them near welders.

I've had arc eye when a flash got in through the side of my safety glasses, hurt like f**k for about a week, then just plain hurt for another week or so

But as Mr Sengravy (his real name, surely not?) has already pointed out, it can't hurt as much as trying to p!ss road chippings

I remember getting it about 10 years ago..

woke in the middle of the night to a scratchy feeling in my eyes and thought there was something in them, lots of eye wash and general confusion later remembered back to holding the wet towel earlier in the day to put the fires out on my mates mini as we welded the rear arches up. Penny dropped and thought back to a fair amount of watching the welding so as to get to the fires quicker

One of the most annoying, irritating, frustrating things I've ever experienced
