Anyone have one, any good, we got carried away pruning Holly and other bushes so we now have a massive pile of branches, most less than an inch thick so I sort of decided to buy a garden shredder, first I thought I would ask whether they are worth bothering with.
The tip is about ten miles away and would require at least a couple of trips.

IMHO...don't bother. WE bought one of these confounded things a few years back and cursed the day. It was forever jamming up and only coped with little twiggy bits. By the time we'd cut the stuff down to a copeable size, we may as well have taken it all to the tip. And the NOISE !!!!! oh lordy, ear shattering. Really , consider saving your hard -earned and just do those 2 visits to the tip.

I got a BOSH(?) one from B&Q a few years ago, wife thought it was a waste of money! I have used it loads of times and watching as a big pile of treee branches turns into a bin bag which fits nicely in the boot of the scoob it great.
Very rarely get jams, it chews anything I throw at it - if I am sensible. I cut up everything into single branches before putting them in the machine, which helps.
Well worth it and has paid back many time compared to hiring one.

Hired a Bosch one (about 2-300 quid to buy) and had no problems with it.
then I bought a B & Q own branded one the other month, worked well the first day, second day it kept smoking and over heating (until i reversed the cutting blades, then it was fine).
Went back to B&Q to buy new blades, but they don't sell them
told me to contact the manufacturer to get more. Sounded like a complete PITA so it went back.
Bosch one's 100 times better!
