Question Driving Test Routes (Chichester)

My boy is taking his driving test in Chichester in a couple of weeks. It was planned for Worthing where we know typical test routes but we opted for Chichester 'cos the waiting list is shorter. Any one know of a site or somewhere where I can find typical test routes so we can familiarise ourselves?? Before you suggest it I have tried Google but no luck so far. Will be taking the Michelins off first David

Because the test centre is not in the town, but just outside, the only route is via the dual carrageway.

several options are available, most using roads round the city,,

the hornet is a definate route, as is the roundabouts at stockbridge and wick

i would suggest some good r/bout ettiquette training and positioning as the test centre is a pig to get to..

Thanks Matt, that's helpful. Can you just tell me what the "Hornet" is please?

In fact his pal failed twice at Chichester on the dual carriageway bits as he got the "3 into 2" bit wrong. So what you say makes sense and we will do plenty of practice on the ring roads. Thanks again, David

I took my driving test in Chichester. It was mostly the residentual areas on the outskirts. If i remember correctly it was out of the test centre, turn right, go to the roundabout, turn right and on the dual carriage way and down to the next round about and turn left again which is where all the residential roads are. I havent been in Chichester for about 12 years so it has probably changed loads!

The hornet is a part of the citys ring road system.

as you come out of the test centre if you go straight accross the d/carrigeway,

you end up in the city centre, in a very large one way system..

basically an odd shaped roundabout with houses/ shops on it..

the wiered part is it has two lanes and three exits
left takes you onto the ring road.
striaight on is into east street, and right takes you back out of the city, or back round the hornet or out of the city...

i got cought out on my bike test..
the instruction was

unless i tell you otherwise carry straight on...

so we nipped into the hornet, and i carried straight on... and 5 yds from the branch he shouts in the ear piece

"I SAID TURN LEFT" so i indicates shrply and peels left, at the same time the ped crossing goes amber..... as i was commited, i went through on amber...

he failed me for not stopping... nice to know roadcraft counts for jack!!

I would advise some saturday driving round the centre

I am pretty sure that there is a road opposite the hospitial which used to be very open and was used for emergency stops. I took my bike test there as well and the instructor was an **** hole. (I passed though) but he was vile. My car instructor was really nice. A very good tip from Mart to go and practise near the test centre. The favourite was the housing estate just out of Chichester heading towards Lavant.

- have a distant memory of driving near St. Richard's hospital (St. Pauls' Road and up College Lane) on my driving test - but it was in 1971 so the route may have changed since then
