ferret in mi kitchen..what ama gonna do???
Said in UB40 stylee..
Seriously tho..opened the rear door to our house this morning to let in some cool air,and a ferret ran in and started diving all over the kitchen.
God knows where is/she is from,i know all the neighbours on our small road well..its non of theres..
I enticed him out with smokey bacon chopped up,ham and corned beef!! put out a water bowl and left him to it in the back garden.Put out an old cat carrier with some bedding in as well..
I rang the police to see if there was anything that they would do...you can guess the answer..perhaps i should have said he wasnt displaying his ferret disc!
Cant get through to the RSPCA at the mo...
Any idea's guys??I dont want him,but wouldnt like to see the little bugger come to any harm..

They are quite the little escape artists! Try and capture it in the cat carrier and then drop it off at the local animal shelter. Consider sticking a few notices up round and about to let the owner know. I doubt it will have travelled too far.

Although, everything has salt in it to one degree or other so how does that work?

It's like anything really - too much salt can be bad for ferrets. Basically just give them raw meat. Dog food is no good, cat food at a push.
Don't give your ferret dairy (unless it is lactose free milk), candy, nuts, rawhide, chocolate, black licorice, soda or sugary or salty snacks. Some of these items can cause serious health problems (even death) for your ferret. Ferrets can not digest nuts or rawhide and they will cause an intestinal blockage. Dairy foods can cause gastrointestinal upset. Don't get into the habit of giving your ferret snacks that contain sugar. Sugar can interfere with blood sugar and the function of the pancreas, especially if the ferret has insulinomas. Sugar also causes tooth decay. Don't ever give your ferret anything that contains caffeine or alcohol (no soda, wine or beer please). Caffeine can cause cardiovascular and other problems for your ferret and possible death. Ferrets can also get very ill or die from an overdose of salt. Don't give your ferret chips or other salty snacks.

Any which way they are carnivores so I imagine mice, maybe some insects and possibly birds eggs. Have a look at the site I linked to above if you really are interested!

Damn that google is a wonderful thing
A great deal of mystery surrounds the origins of the domestic ferret. Archeological remains of the ferret have been dated to 1500 BC, and most people place the origin around the same time as the domestic cat (which was probably during dynastic Egypt). The ferret was probably bred from the European Polecat (Mustela putorius), and some use the scientific name Mustela putorius furo. It is also possible that ferrets have the Steppe polecat (Mustela eversmanni) in their ancestry.
