New chair for commission for integrated transport
Now that Begg has gone his replacement is to be Peter Hendy who came from, wait for it, TfL!! Yes indeed, another member of the anti-car lobby. His credentials include:
Peter Hendy is the Managing Director of Surface Transport at Transport for London. He is responsible for London Buses (and East Thames Buses, the public sector operator), the Public Carriage Office, which regulates taxis and private hire vehicles, Croydon Tramlink, Dial-a-Ride, Victoria Coach Station, passenger services serving TfL piers on the River Thames, Street Management, the Transport for London Road Network, congestion charging, traffic management, road safety, walking, cycling and in addition TfL's corporate interest in Transport Policing and Enforcement.
and:
Prior to joining TfL, Peter was previously Deputy Director - UK Bus for FirstGroup plc. In this role he was responsible for FirstGroup bus operations in London and southern England, bus development and policy issues and light rail, including the operation of Croydon Tramlink.
So he's going to want to build lots more roads and remove traffic lights timed to cause congestion, pinch points, bus lanes, cycle lanes and the like isn't he. Oh, and our taxes are paying him £30,000 per year for working 5 days per month!! I am sure he will be working as a consultant to a range of rail and bus operators on the other days.
