Indegestion
#1
![Question](https://www.scoobynet.com/images/icons/icon5.gif)
How long is acceptable to have it?
I've never suffered from it before but I'm on my 6th day of it without sign of it going. I have a dull pain all the time in my stomach and at the top (below the rib cage center I have a slightly sharper pain)
I did a google and it seems classic indegestion, which is strange as I've never felt bloated for more than a few hours after eating![Big Grin](https://www.scoobynet.com/images/smilies/biggrin.gif)
Other thing is it's there all the time (read it's after eating) and occasionally I get a more severe twisting pain in the top of the stomach area (woke at 4 this morning like this) and it sort of spasms every so often.
I'm not overweight, my diet isn't the best but it never has been and I've never had this before. It hurts when I walk too.
Am I just getting old (28
) and going to have to look forward to more of the same.
Incidentally indegestion relief tablets and liquid don't seem to do anything.

Ok i've been through this.
Is the pain quite severe after eating a fatty meal just below the chest are ato your right hand side - if so could be gallstones mate in which case you might need an op - if so dont be worried i had it done and i feel great.
It also could be an ulcer get it checked out at the docs

Pain is there all the time regardless of whether eating or not, like I say it'll be just as bad in the middle of the night. It all came on since last saturday after eating the biggest steak of my life (and some trimmings)
thing is like I say I've never had it before. Also I've been eating healthy and staying away from red meats for the past couple of days, but it's just as bad (if not getting worse).
I do get some sort of bubbling (which I presume is the acid?)
Have tried the gaviscon and I think it takes the sharper part of the pain away.
thanks for the reply

Could be a hiatus hernia. If so, you either have to "keep taking the pills" or have an op (which is fairly risky with no guarantee of success).
Or you could have a stomach ulcer. They can test for this with a breath test (because it's caused by bacteria). If so they'll just give you some strong acid suppressants andsome antibiotics and you'll be OK.

Go see the doc. He/she is the only person who can really set you straight. What's that saying about "a little knowledge is dangerous?" Go , asap.

I had bad indegestion for ages, go told to lose weight, no boozing, no spicy foods, go to bed on an angle, yadda yadda yadda, tuned out to be Heliocobacter Pylori, a stomach bug that stimulates acid production, literally anything set me off, felt like crying sometimes, the pain was horrible, used to have to excuse myself in meetings, anyway, the doc gave me a several mega antibiotics and it cleared it up, now I only get indegestion if I eat **** and wash it down with lots of Stella, i.e. when I deserve it !

Can be as serious as a heart attack or as mild as indegestion, only the quack can really tell.

If your discomfort persists after 2 weeks, see your GP.Watch your food and drinks(try not to drink coffee, milk. drink limited amount of de-caff tea).loadsa water and Gaviscon(I think you have been taking it anyway) until then.
Hope you feel better soon mate.

I suffer with it acutely from time to time but just recently had a less severe bout that lasted well over a week. Gaviscon, rennies, etc failed to shift it and I was ready to accept it was actually a heart attack or something! Then as a last resort I tried Rennie Deflatin, for trapped wind, and within half an hour I was cured.
Give them a try cos they're for trapped wind rather than acid indigestion.
