question to current door supervisors...
I take it that every doorman these days has to be qualified with an SIA recognised training course?
Or do you just have to take the license from the local county council (backgroudn check etc..)
which certification body is most valued?
BIIAB
NOCN
Edexcel
Or doesnt it matter? As long as you have the basic level2 NVQ and council license?
Whats the average pay per hour for inner city?
I hear mixed reports from £7- £15 per hour.
Cheers.

i know that one place on newcastles quayside, the MIN wage for the bouncers is £14.85/hour
the max wage was about £20.85/hour
bar staff inside were mostly on £5.50/hour while the odd one was on £7ish
thats pretty good going for chucking out a few ponces now and again IMO
peeps in club management should not leave USB sticks in full valets, you never know who is going to have a look

S.I.A registration is required for every doorman.
It costs £350.00 for the course, failure results in re-doing the entire course.
Rates of pay largely depend on the venue that you are working.
Most city centre pubs and clubs down here pay £20.00 an hour depending on experiance.
My advice to you if you havn't done any door work before is DON'T.
I was stabbed last year by a few guys who waited in the car park for me purely because i would not allow them in the club.
My best mate was run down by a guy in a 4x4 for refusing to let him sell drugs outside the pub he was working the door on.
Think about it seriously,i mean do you want people spitting at you and your family in the street just because of the part time job you do.

As dangerous dave says, you have to take the SIA course which is put together by the BIIAB I believe.
I've done my SIA course - being a licencee it kinda helps having the SIA bit on your side aswell! There are two parts to the exam, both of which you will need to pass to be granted a licence, then you will need to pay another £190 for your badge, which you will need to wear at all times whilst working on the door.
Also as dave says there are many risks that go along with working on as a door superviser - they get paid £10p/h+ for a reason! Giz a pm chrome if you need to know any more about it matey

All door staff now have to be registered and certified.
You need to wear your ID/tag/badge at all times whilst working. This is regularly enforced by the Police or more often local CSO's, if you havent brought your badge you go home.
It is becoming the trend at the moment to wear high viz jackets when working event/licenced premises, radios and ear pieces are still optional, and PPE like stab vests are to be supplied/purchased by yourselves.
The business has been flooded of late by newstarters who have found themselves out of work or on short time, they have needed extra income, they choose between Taxi's and security work.
In my experiance a large amount of people coming in fresh from their SIA courses are unsuitable for licensed premises work, they seem to think they are trained for the work because they attent a local leisure centre on a Wednesday night and train at Judo. They cause more trouble than they avert....
Anyone with a clear backgound and no history so therefore meet the req'd criteria can obtain a badge if they want, they seek employment from an agency, or approach a local security firm and away they go.
Some firms pay as little as £10 an hour for door staff, I believe you get what you pay for.
In the good/bad old days you didnt need a badge or certification, I have found that these old stlye doormen are now owners of door syndicates as they can not get their badges, for one reason or another. So their only option is to start a security firm and employ badged/certificated staff. You dont need any badge to be a security firm owner, as long as you dont do the work on the doors.
There are too many companies and not enough work......the business is flooded, hence the battles to keep areas from new incoming companies.
If anyone was to ask me for advice on starting as a doorman, I would say dont bother.
If you need extra money but not the hastle/danger choose event security, but the money goes down again, as little as £7 an hour for moving cones in a arena carpark.
