Poems/Readings for a baby's funeral
Hi,
Just wondered if anyone had any recommendations of sites to look at.
Without putting too fine a point on it, non-religious sites only please.
I did think twice about posting this here, but I'm finding it too painful trawling through all the google links that come up, so would appreciate some help.
Cheers, Alex

I havent got any suggestions I'm afraid.
I just thought I would say my thoughts are with you and everyone at that funeral as it must be such a terribly difficult time.
The task ahead of you is a mammoth one and you have got ***** to do such a heartbreaking thing like this.
Again Will be thinking of all you guys.
P.S Sorry if I sound soppy. Just couldn't begin to imagine attending a babys funeral. My youngest is 1 and the thought makes me feel sick.
Good Luck

Jesus just reading this post..well brings it back. My brother lost his little girl, 9 months old nearly three years ago now. I Can't even go and buy flowers for the grave without without the tears coming on.
All I can say is dig deep and make the words your own. You'll find the words. Trust me.
All the best.
Andy.

My commiserations to the parents. Remember this: you'd rather have had them for a short time than not at all.
Only recommendation I can come up with is this, which, thanks to Four Weddings and a Funeral, is rather hackneyed. Still gets the sentiment across, I guess.
Do not stand on my grave and weep;
I am not there. I do not sleep.
I am a thousand winds that blow.
I am the diamond's glint on snow.
I am the sunlight on ripened grain.
I am the gentle autumn's rain.
When you awaken in the morning's hush,
I am the swift uplifting rush of quiet birds in circled flight.
I am the soft stars that shine at night.
Do not stand at my grave and cry;
I am not there. I did not die.

Thanks for your kind words, our son was still born last week quite late in the pregnancy.
I'm trying to short list some readings, that I will then discuss with my wife or at least a short list of sites, we can go through together.
Thanks again, Alex

little angels
When God calls little children to dwell with Him above,
We mortals sometime question the wisdom of His love.
For no heartache compares with the death of one small child
Who does so much to make our world, seem wonderful and mild
Perhaps God tires of calling the aged to his fold,
So He picks a rosebud, before it can grow old.
God knows how much we need them, and so He takes but few
To make the land of Heaven more beautiful to view.
Believing this is difficult still somehow we must try,
The saddest word mankind knows will always be "Goodbye."
So when a little child departs, we who are left behind
Must realize God loves children, Angels are hard to find.
i am so sorry... i'm crying, god knows what you are going through at this time... all my thoughts are with you and your wife and this sad sad time

So sorry to hear that. I recently heard from a friend who lost his baby at 9 days old. It's such a tragic thing to happen. I cried my eyes out when I read his email.
My deepest symathy goes to you and your partner.

I'm so so sorry for your loss, please be strong especially for your good lady. We'll all be thinking of you and will be in our prayers.
I think your own words would be apt but i know thats easier said than done. I just cant comprehend your loss but i know whenever i hear this poem it brings a little comfort.
Footprints
One night I had a dream--
I dreamed I was walking along the beach with the Lord
and across the sky flashed scenes from my life.
For each scene I noticed two sets of footprints,
one belonged to me and the other to the Lord.
When the last scene of my life flashed before me,
I looked back at the footprints in the sand.
I noticed that many times along the path of my life,
there was only one set of footprints.
I also noticed that it happened at the very lowest
and saddest times in my life.
This really bothered me and I questioned the Lord about it.
"Lord, you said that once I decided to follow you,
you would walk with me all the way,
but I have noticed that during the most troublesome times in my life
there is only one set of footprints.
"I don't understand why in times when I needed you most,
you should leave me."
The Lord replied, "My precious, precious child,
I love you and I would never, never leave you
during your times of trial and suffering.
"When you saw only one set of footprints,
it was then that I carried you."

I would try and write something yourself - from the heart.

Oh I am so very sorry to hear your heartbreaking news.
I hope you can find strength to take each day at a time.
I can't even imagine how you both must be feeling.
Please be gentle with each other these are such emotional times for you both.
No words can begin to ease your loss but I found this little poem for you.
It may be a bit too religious but I hope it helps.
Take care
Thinking of you
Cath
There's a little baby angel
looking down from above
Wants you to remember
he dwells in his Father's love
He never catches a cold
or sickness of any kind
Never has a bad thought
that ever comes to mind
Never feels sad or lonely
there's lots of children there
There's never any danger
he's in the Father's care
Walks in mist of angels
who laud him with song
Dwells in God's presence
where little children belong
I hope you can find strength to take each day at a time.

My deepest condolences.
Like some others have said, if you can find your own words, sometimes that is better. Having said that, "Footprints" as posted above is for me one of the most beautiful poems ever written.
I wish you both all my best wishes.
