Route66 GPS now available for P910i!
Well I've been waiting for this for AGES:
http://www.66.com/route66/index.php
Can someone give me their verdict on Route66 vs TomTom, Navman etc?
Cheers
Brendan

I guess this won't work on the P900 then, if the package uses a 256mb stick?
My other question is what do you guys use to fix your P900/P910 to the car? I assume some sort of rubberised screen mount sucker device? If yes where do I get one from (not keen on screw in or air vent mounts)?
Thanks
WB

wb, look at Mick's thread a few stops down http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/showthread.php?t=438036
Getchaself reflashed and go buy a meg!
Or, if you hunt through their products, you'll find one also available for the P900.

Friend of mine says he's waiting for the p800 version, so I hope to see it in the next few days. Don't expect a detailed review, I've never seen a satnav system before so I can't compare to anything.
Well, I impatiently wrote to them, and got a reply back, but TBH I don't know how much it really answered my questions. My added comments in square brackets.
1. I live in a suburb of Lisbon, Portugal. I know the coverage here is not
great, but people are improving the maps year by year. Assuming my street
is not marked on the map, how do I receive an update when maybe next year it
will be included? Your website says to write to the mapping company, but it
does not say the result - do they issue new maps each year, if so are they
at cost (how much) or free for Route66 purchasers?
1. There is no policy established regarding map updates. As you already know
we are buying the map data from the best map supplier for Europe: Navigation
Technologies (http://www.navteq.com/). That is their present coverage of
Europe. As soon as new data is supplied, it will be included in our
software.
There are no map updates available at the moment.
[BH - the site shows all of Portugal in an area the size of my thumbnail, it's not clear at all if my own suburb is covered. I have now written to Navteq.]
2. I assume the coverage of Portugal is the same between the Iberian package
and the Europe package - it is not less in Europe as "minor"
roads are deleted to save space?
2. Yes, the coverage level (of one country) is the same both in the country
product and in the European version. Please consult our web site www.66.com
for further details regarding the coverage.
3. Are there any restrictions to me constantly transferring this between my
P910 and my wife's P910? (I read something that it is possible but must be
installed on both phones within one week)
3. The ROUTE 66 Mobile 2006 software must be activated before you can use
it. The following activation restrictions apply to the "ROUTE 66 Mobile
2006" products:
- You can use the same product key as many times as you like on the same
mobile phone (with any SIM card)
- You can use the same product key on a second mobile phone only starting 1
week after the first activation
- You can use the same product key on a third mobile phone only starting 1
month after the second activation
[BH - I think this means I have to wait at least a week, rather than doing it within a week. Not clear...]
4. If I already have a hands-free car kit that works with telemute via the
car speakers (not bluetooth, it is hardwired) and phone support cradle
installed, does the system issue voice commands through that kit? I hope I
don't have to use the R66 phone cradle specially for this. And how might it
work if I am using the phone at the same time as listening to directions? a)
I hope this is possible, b) I assume the two signals fight with one another
to use the car speakers? Does one have priority?
4. Yes, the voice instructions can be heard through a wired hands-free
device. The settings you need to make are only connected to that device. In
our software the only setting regarding the sound (Sound off/on).
5. If I do update with a new map, that means wiping the memory stick.
If I have already marked several points of interest, will these be kept in a
separate file for me to simply save somewhere and then drop in again
afterwards, or do I have to manually enter them individually again?
5. You can save the routes you calculate and all its waypoints. Please note
that the routes are saved on the memory card in a file called Res (the file
extension *.wpt).
[BH - I assume this means I have to keep this file if/when I change the map, and re-install it afterwards]

Just found this. Doesn't sound perfect , but perhaps it'll do as there's no real alternative. Chap says R66 ain't wonderful - but also views TomTom as horribly expensive.

Bought it, installed it.
So far, so good, but barely used it TBH. Impressed with the street coverage in my area, compared to a colleague's rather expensive one.
Seems quite confusing to use when I just want to use it as a map without the bluetooth. Keeps asking if I want to switch to navigate, then says I need bluetooth. I also can't easily start up the map in a location I want, which is a bit irritating - shows the whole of Iberia and then any zoom takes you to somewhere in the middle of the ocean. Have to see if there's a default cursor rather than selecting each time.
Voice commands aren't militarily accurate - "turn right now" means turn right in 30 metres, which ain't good if there's a turn 5m away. And "now take the exit" from the roundabout isn't perfect either.
Will keep trialling...
