Unhappy Speed awareness course??

I recently got clocked not in my scoob but just trundling along in my crappy escort doing 37mph in a 30. Had the notice of prosecution through the post a couple of days later. I have decided however that I will go on the Speed awareness course that was offered instead. It is more money and a waste of a day but at least it will keep the points off my license.
Just wondering if anybody on here been on such a course? If so what did they think about it?
They have sent me to a place that is about 35 miles away, when there is a place that does these courses about 3 miles away from where I live. Does anybody know if it is possible to change venue? as well as the date of the course as I'm abroad on my holls?

Thanks Adam

Are they even that bothered if you turn up at all? Just book a place and dont go, they probably wont care as long as they get their revenue money off you.

Would love to try that theory but don't want to risk ending up with the points

I think it would be sensible to turn up, you should see some documentation sent to you and it will contain things likeL

"if at any stage you change your mind or fail to meet any of the workshop conditions, fail to attend at the date and time arranged then the matter will be dealt with by fixed penalty"

The documentation goes on to outline that one of the conditions is that you must:

"be present for the entire duration and show improvement in terms of attitude and ability."

So, looks like there will be a bit of thought control going on then. It would seem that you must show that you have been reprogrammed but I'm sure no one else finds this worrying.

In terms of not turning up for a "good reason" the documentation says the following:

"If you are unable to attend the Workshop/Course your file will be returned to police for proceedings unless through excepetional circumstances i.e. berevement or medical grounds. Documentary evidence justifying your non-attendance will be required and an administration charge of £30 will be made for rescheduling. Failure to justify your non-attendance will result in non-completion. No refund of the original course fees will be made."

I don't know if being on holiday might be considered "exceptional circumstances" and a reasonable excuse to reschedule your reprogramming but when you do go be sure to come out chanting positive things about Mr. Blair and his policies, otherwise you will have the 3 points as well.

Enjoy...

I've done it a couple of times now

Northamptonshire Speeding workshop last less than 3 hours. They just talk about how to watch your speed, how to not creep over the limit and things that indicate what the speed limit is. Some of it is pretty interesting.

I think it's a great idea, as I would have losy my licence had it not been for this.

"be present for the entire duration and show improvement in terms of attitude and ability."
does it say anything about nodding a lot during the course, being utterly repentent and promising never to even get close to a speedlimit right up until you walk out the door...... then doing a donut in the carpark before you leave?
Seriously, I've not been clocked before *touches wood* but I would be sooooooo tempted!

I guess turning up and handing out a load of anti-scamera literature would be considered a bit of a no-no then? It would be almost tempting to go, rip the arguments apart and generally be a pain in the a$$ even if it did result in still getting the fine and points at the end of it!

I was offered one of these about 7 years after some bint in a Volvo who was speeding in the rain ran into the side of the car. I got the venue changed - I think I said it would be better to attend one closer to where I worked or some rubbish like that.
To be honest a waste of time as I had passed by advanced driving in the time it took them to get me on another course. But better than three points, Best way to guarantee a 'pass' is to drive like a complete muppet at the start of the course and then get better.

Forgot to add bite your toungue to resit the temptation to argue with the instructer as well as they really do spout utter rubbish.

Like the idea of turning up with loads of anti scamera info !

Better still - start off driving like you've nicked the car and are being chased by the police - then end up driving like Miss Daisy .

If I ever get caught speeding again I hope this is offered - like others have said - points don't make prizes !

I would say if you handed out anti-camera information at the start, but not at the end, then you could assert that this represented an improvement in your attitude. They might not be pleased but they could hardly deny this as the truth.

Of course you might be required to chant nice things about comrade Blair at the end as well, perhaps there is even a little song you have to sing?

Thanks for the comments, looks like I'll be turning up, biting my tongue and praising our glorious government. Any Ideas where I could get some eye clamps from as I suffer from falling asleep at in appropiate times.
