I do ok
I made £4000 profit from poker between September and March which I put towards buying my S2000. I've now started again right at the lower limits which is a little frustraiting but also good practice.

I put in some fairly reasonable part-time hours to achieve that but you have to be willing to spend the time really learning the game. I'd say I played online for about a year where I was making only a very small amount of money and finding it very difficult. You need to be able to advance through this 'learning' stage if you want to be able to consistently make money. The best thing to do IMHO is take a couple of hundred that you can afford to lose and play really low stakes with it. Don't be temped to try higher stakes and look to just build it up slowly in your spare time. If you are a winning player you'll double it without realising it and it'll build momentum.

take it easy guys!!!
i spunked a load of winnings on roulette, when i should have taken it out and quit!!!
still, it was money i never had in the first place, so no real loss.
but it was tempting to throw more money at it after. Thats where they GET you!!
everything in moderation i guess!!!
good luck to you all!

A worrying amount of winning poker players blow their money on other casino cames that have a fixed odds advantage in favour of the house - I just have to laugh that they play a game well enough to ensure they retain a mathematical advantage (which can be very hard to figure out/judge) then they blow that money won through skill on a game that is so obviously fixed in the favour of the casino!!!! These are good poker players that are gamblers at heart.
Fortunatley I don't gamble (as such) as I get no kick from the feeling of winning or losing at gambling. I play poker to make money and get satisfaction from the enjoyment of the game but more so from the smug feeling you get when you realise you are a consistant winning player.

Lifted £1300 in a week at Ladbrokes on the one on one tables, probably cost me £300-400 to get it so a profit of around £900ish aint so bad.Resisted temptation and quit after that as they say "you gotta know when to hold'em and when to fold'em".

A word of warning to the noobs at poker - you have to be very thick skinned....
(I'm throat and I'd be waiting for a hand against this guy all night as he was wild)
------HAND 7------
Game #603101224: Texas Hold'em No Limit ($0.50/$1) - 2005/06/30 - 22:43:00 (UK)
Table "Pawtucket" Seat 2 is the button.
Seat 1: ismaskin ($97 in chips)
Seat 2: sjuften ($87.95 in chips)
Seat 3: Throat ($103.75 in chips)
Seat 4: Kingmat ($96.06 in chips)
Seat 5: Silvereye ($152.11 in chips)
Seat 6: Sik425 ($121.61 in chips)
Throat: posts small blind $0.50
Kingmat: posts big blind $1
----- HOLE CARDS -----
dealt to Throat [Ts 9d]
Silvereye: folds
Sik425: calls $1
ismaskin: folds
sjuften: folds
Throat: calls $0.50
Kingmat: raises to $5
Sik425: calls $4
Throat: calls $4
----- FLOP ----- [9h 5c 5h]
Throat: checks
Kingmat: bets $5
Sik425: folds
Sik425 leaves the table
Throat: raises to $15
Kingmat: calls $10
----- TURN ----- [9h 5c 5h][Td]
Throat: bets $83.75 and is all-in
Kingmat: is all-in $76.06
Returned uncalled bets $7.69 to Throat
----- RIVER ----- [9h 5c 5h Td][Ah]
----- SHOW DOWN -----
Throat: shows [Ts 9d] (Two Pairs, Tens and Nines, Ace high)
Kingmat: shows [Th Ac] (Two Pairs, Aces and Tens, Nine high)
Kingmat collected $194.12 from Main pot
----- SUMMARY -----
Total pot $197.12 Main pot $194.12 Rake $3
Board [9h 5c 5h Td Ah]
Seat 1: ismaskin folded before Flop (didn't bet)
Seat 2: sjuften (button) folded before Flop (didn't bet)
Seat 4: Kingmat (big blind) showed [Th Ac] and won ($194.12) with Two Pairs, Aces and Tens, Nine high
Seat 5: Silvereye folded before Flop (didn't bet)
You'll note when the money went in my opponent was needing one of the three remaining aces in the deck to win the hand. Of the 46 unknown cards to him 3 of them helped and 43 did not. Expressed as 43:3 or around 14.5:1 and he hit it for my entire buyin - Just got to pick yourself up and play on but stuff like this can send you wild.

I'd stick to some of the bigger names like Partypoker, Pokerstars, Ladbrokes and for playing in £££s williamhill. Most/all of those sites have low stakes limits, etc

What you refer to is called an SNG tournament (Sit n Go) and on most of the sites you can play $5 SNGs where all the players start with 1500 chips or so with 10/20 blinds and 3 places paying at a full table of 10. If you are good at SNGs it's possible to make consistent money at them. You can also play micro-limit cash games which can be as low as 1/2c blinds but that is almost like playing for fun the value of the money is that low.

I have been playing on Paddy Power recently,as said above it is very easy to go gung ho and place high bets due to $$$ taking over your senses. I lost around £200 last week and now have resorted to plating low buy in tables to increase my knowledge of the game and so far seem to be doing ok....be warned lol!

Jods you seem to be ripping these multi-table tournaments to bits - keep up the good work. My brother just made the final table of the Scottish Festival Tourament at the maybury and came 8th for £2500
He knocked out Mark Williams (snooker) earlier in the tourney but went down at the final table against Liam Flood of Latenight poker fame.

(I was punching hard though)
The £2.5K one (Multi table - Rebuy) took about 4 hours
I messed up a while back, I was massive chip leader in a multitable tourney with first prize of $15K. It was still going at 2AM and had at least another 3 hours to go(I thought) but I had a new job starting that morning (Big contract earning big money so I didn't want to turn up tired / late) Tried to end it quick with a series of Nuclear bets.
Got called
(Which I sort of expected)
Blew lead in 6 hands
went out 20 hands later.
The tourney finished at 10AM (2 hours after I started work)
Earnt enough in first week to sooth the pain.
CHEERS SAXO - I just banked another 1300GBP so it's Lager city for me the weekend !!!

Jods you must be running one hell of a bankroll to be playing $1000 heads up tourneys!!! If you are not you are gambling and should either a) play a level appropriate to your bankroll or b) cash out not before lady luck bites you in the *****.
Remember the best players in the world all have horrible runs of luck which is why you must have a deep bankroll to sustain yourself through it

You think its tougher for real money? By that you infer there is a chance you could turn $5k into $1M in real money
Why you not on bbs.ferrari.com yet?
Play for fun is very different from real money and is only good practise to learn what beats what IMHO.
