Default Cheapest ferry from Dover to Calais and back?? & how much is petrol in france now?

Anyone know any cheap operators?

Going to Europe for about 10 days, and was going to take Eurotunnel, but its over 100quid return per car travelling at the cheapest times!!! Seems steep, anyone know anywhere good to try?

Also how much is fuel in Europe, Ive heard its almost as much as the UK now, but surely this cant be right?

When I cross the channel I use http://www.speedferries.com - usually get it for £50 return per car and up to 5 passengers. Only hassle is that it goes to Bolougne (sp?) instead of Calais, which is about 20 miles away. The crossing is pretty quick though.

Fuel has shot up in mainland europe recently. I was in Brussels last week and it was about 120-130 cents for UL, and about 110cents for diesel (from memory). I think its to do with the current high oil prices.

In France, as anywhere, it'll depend on WHERE you buy your fuel.

Motorway, 98RON, around €1.34
Diesel, around 1.10

Hypermarket, or small town supermarket service stn,
98RON, around €1.22
Diesel, around €1

Roadside/town garages, somewhere between.

When I go without the trailer, unless I'm really in a hurry, I'll leave the main road/motorway and use a supermarket. OK, you'll maybe queue, but on a full tank for the Scoob, you save around €4.50 or more, each fill.

Worth a couple of mile detour.

I find these the cheapest for me

http://www.norfolkline.com/NorfolkLi...sh/default.htm

its Dover to Dunkerque - slightly longer passage, its 'no frills' but perfectly adequate.

It cost £34 return (£15 one way, and £19 the other) with Speedferries when we went last month, though we'd booked quite a bit in advance.

Thats a fair point - It's a hell of a lot quieter. Its a bit crap when you're stuck there with nothing to do though - if the boat is late for example.

Speedferries no doubt if you book as far in advance as possible. They're like the cheap airlines, the earlier you book, the cheaper it is.
