Well, lets hope they manage to make something of it this time.

The management must be better than the last shower. The only issue this time, is that they have little loyalty towards Longbridge

Shows how the World is changing.
Now, if some 30 years ago one had said to the Longbridge workers that the rump of British Leyland would be bought in the future by a Chinese company, would they have thought that possible?
The next 30 years?
I can remember the death of the British motorcycle industry because it refused to see the future and tried to carry on selling out of date, unreliable old designs.
30 years time the Chinese will be offshoring their callcentres to the UK.

Not the original and only thanks to that nice Mr. Bloor.
One company does not make a British industry.
Yes, my brother's 1957 AJS 500 single is still going strong and all original.
He prefers his 1200 Bandit. Mind, he looks after his 'bikes.
I prefer my Scoob to any car I've had in the past.
My point was that the British motorcycle industry and later the car industry failed to recognise the coming of the Japanese. However you only had to look at the technology of the Honda racers to see they were serious.
Then the CB750 appeared.

Losing Triumph cars was tragedy. IMHO they made some of the best British cars.

The TR series, Dolomite Sprint, Herald were all classics and cars such as the 2.5 PI (Mk 2 with overdrive) were best in their class at the time.

Being Chinese myself I dont think the Chinese really give a **** about Rover. They have so much money their just want some where to spend it.

Its wrong cuz I live by Longbridge and a lot of people I know will be affected

Its a case of the *new* super power getting a further foot hold in the world market. They have cornered the steel market and are now in a commanding position with oil................... and now cars

Thumbs up

I too loved the Triumph's my Dad had a 2.5, and one of my first cars was a triumph toledo, I know I know But I always wanted a Dolomite Sprint, I remember walking into a Austin/Rover/Triumph dealership when the Dolomite Sprint came out and it was £3000 new wish I'd bought one now, after seeing some examples at the 100 years of Austin at Longbridge 2 weeks ago.
Cheers

It's a bargain though, £50million! BMW would spend more than that designing a dashboard.

I'm glad SIAC didn't get their grubby little hands on the entire MGR outfit.
Nanjing have got them selves a range of cars to sell in China, a production facility, design teams, a nearly completed new mid range car, powertrain and can cherry pick the best of MGR's staff.

Nanjing must be jumping up and down at the moment.

I hope they are able to maximise long term employment for the region. There is no reason why Longbridge cannot become another Toyota (Derby).

Cheers
Lee

I think they should move out of Longbridge. The work force mentality from here is wrong.

Start again in a fresh area with a new work force

Ive not really been following this story. So a couple of questions?

Is the "new" Rover going to build cars that people want to buy. Or are they going to keep churning out the same crap as the last 5+ years? Or the rebadged heaps of Halfords inspired sh*te that the MG range is nowadays?

If they are, how is the company going to survive?

I cant help but feel its a false dawn. Which will only get peoples hopes up.
