It now seems to be open season for bombers.

Would having all police armed act as a deterrent? I think it would for some maybe not for others. If though it does work for some then it has saved a life, then it's worth doing.

I would also think some of the "yob culture" we have may think twice before committing an act of crime, knowing that all police are armed. Whenever I go aboard and see police / customs officers being armed it is both alarming and re-assuring, as long as you are law abiding.

What other modern prosperous country can anyone name that their police force is unarmed with guns?

It would be a sad sign of the times if our police force had to be armed but, times are changing, recent events have "hit" home and it is time to change.

The only downside to this idea would be coming from the everyday villains. I imagine they would be more prone to carrying in light of the law carrying . IMHO

If the villian draws his gun against the police, the police have a good enough reason to shoot him. No tax payers trial, light sentence out in half, less villians in prison.

Different story if its a member of public that the weapon is pointed at, but then most criminals just want the cash / property and off they go. If its armed robbery its one thing but murder is a big step up from that. Either way, the police are looking for an armed villian. Again if the villian draws his gun against the police....

I've voted yes. Travelling abroad it's the norm. My opinion is that it would make some stupid crooks think twice. You are always going to have your hard villains but as a deterrent I believe it's a good one

I do not think this arming the cops is going to work, as if anything its made the asain community more trigger happy too!!

in todays paper apparently the house in which the guy came out of was linked to the attempted bus bombing on thursday
they were following for some time since then
and yes i think the police should be armed i mean if u are law abiding whats the problem

5Cby, the problem is when innocent people get shot, i would love them to shoot the fcukin terrorist/bombers but when a innocent person gets shot for running from men shouting at him.......thats just fcuked up!!

The police have said he came out the house but is this a reason to shoot the guy??........he may have been renting a room in the same house?

well said Buck, there is a general lack of discipline in society today which is where there is so much crime simple. When I were a lad (and everything were all just fields! ) several things would happen, get lippy at school - get the cane or a kicking from someone bigger and harder, get lippy at home - get a beating off the old man, get lippy out and about - get the fear of god (but no violence) from the local bobby. You soon leanr respect believe me, thats why all these ***** do what they like, they dont get a good kicking for it. Simple!

You're right Gary, although I'm not a believer in domestic violence it certainly inbred respect although out of fear normally. Which, for all intents and purposes, is not a bad thing.
