Default Wisdom teeth coming through...

Other half has his wisdom teeth coming through and is in agony with it

Anyone recommend any unusual types of pain relief? We have already tried ibuprofen, paracetamol, cocodamol, clove oil, ear drops and one of those beanbag things you heat up in the microwave.

TIA

I had a terrible time with my wisdon teeth when I was in my late teens. The pain was constant and unbearable so I went to see my dentist who arranged for me to have them removed. When the time came for the operation I bottled it and didn't go, I then made another appointment for the op straight away as I couldn't stand the pain and guess what, I bottled that too

I eventually just put up with it and after a (considerable) while the pain eased off and eventually went away completely, IIRC it took months not weeks. Ironically I had to have three of them removed two years ago My advice is to ring the dentist again, get an emergency appointment for your hubby (tell them he can't work/sleep/eat/has a baby on the way/etc etc) and get him into hospital as soon as possible

My (impacted) lower wisdom teeth took 45 minutes to remove - EACH!

Got an appointment at the Dental Hospital. It involved cutting out some jawbone with a drill, and then using a corkscrew type thing which they put into the tooth (exactly as you would a cork in a wine bottle) and pulling. Unfortunately it pulled the top off the tooth, and so they had to cut more jawbone away to get at the root. I also remember about 3 tubes in my mouth - 1 to put water in, 1 to suck water out, and the 3rd one was bright red quite often - presume blood

...by this time, the surgeon (yes, it was a local anesthetic!) had dropped the drill on the floor and couldn't find a new sterlised one.....also the anesthetic had worn off, and so the drilling on the nerve of the root was pretty darn sore!

It was painful for days after, and your face is swollen to ****. Got the other side done 2 weeks later, and the surgeon said "won't be the same as last time" - it was, same issue!!!!

However, getting it done didn't really bother me. Wee bit of pain seemed worth it to get rid of them.

PMSL SiPie I will be sure to tell him that when he gets home this afternoon

Hmmm, molie, that could be quite an effective mixture with all the pain killers!

Thanks for the info SC Going to get on the case now

Oh right, was that the dental place at Lauriston Place? Did you walk in or get referred by your dentist?

It was the old one in Chambers St before it relocated to Lauriston Place. Yes, referred by dentist, but you could just try phoning them.

Bloody hell imlach, that's just reminded me why I didn't go to hospital when I had the chance When I had mine removed a couple of years ago I had them done by my dentist under local. I had so much anesthetic that I didn't feel a thing There was a fair bit of pain and blood after for a few days but some ibuprofen and codydramol that I had left over from sciatica helped a lot The worst bit was having the stitches removed, it didn't hurt but was a horrible sensation and I'm very squeamish.

I had all 4 of mine removed some time ago through my Private Medical Cover at work.

I was booked in a week after the initial appointment. They basically had to take x-rays to see if my teeth were anywhere near my nerves. Then given the go ahead for the op.

I was sedated. The whole operation took about 45 mins and I even got to keep them! lol

The only hard thing was keeping the holes clean once they had been stiched up. I was told by a friend to buy an open ended seringe from any pharmacy (about £0.50) and keep spraying them with salt water.

I was given pain killers (Co-codamol if I remember rightly) and was signed off for 2 weeks.

Tell him good luck.
