Cant remember much but there was a family whos son was lost whilst on holiday and was raised by natives, and at the end he helps his sister to save the family???

Really cant remember much else! Its definatly from the 80s, possibly around '85

That's the one I thought. Set in S.America, father building a dam, son wanders off into forest at edge of building site and goes missing. Raised by natives into his young adulthood until industrial development reaches the edge of their territory. Father spent his life since searching for the boy when he can, at the expense of his marriage and eventually stumbles across him. IIRC the father leaves modern society and joins his son in the jungle at the end.

Good job he became friends with Ewan McGregor, would have sunk into obscurity otherwise.
