Our young lad has lost interest in his 2 pet terrapins (diamond back ones - the little guys). Two males about 4 years old. One is lively and fun, the other one is a mourngy little git who just sits there ![Smile](https://www.scoobynet.com/images/smilies/smile.gif)

Tell me more, are they reptiles, do you need any special knowledge to look after them, do they come supplied with any extras, ie: a bowl for them to live in ?
Oh, and do they smell?

Don't let him get away with that. Presumably you made sure he knew he was taking on a commitment when you got him a pet, so make him live up to that commitment!

They need minimal effort - cleaning them once every few weeks will keep the water clean (although i will be providing a water pump which helps with that). Sometimes they will eat daily then over winter they just don't eat at all (i am also providing a GIANT bag of terrapin food but they do love a little bit of bacon every now and again)
I'm afraid the missus managed to drop one of their rocks into the tank and cracked it - so they'll need a new one, but the fact that they're only 5 inches means they dont need anything too big.
ajm - it's not worth the hassle of making him keep up with the terrapins, they enjoy attention and he just isn't providing it, so someone else might as well enjoy them.
TurboHot - of course i'll post them. Rather than waste money on a parcel i'll just write your address on their shells![Big Grin](https://www.scoobynet.com/images/smilies/biggrin.gif)
If they don't have a new home by next week it'll be special terrapin surpise soup for us all week along with 2 new gorgeous turtle shell-effect ash trays on eBay![Smile](https://www.scoobynet.com/images/smilies/smile.gif)

Just incase you don't sell them:
Terrapin Soup Recipe
Terrapin Soup Recipe ingredients
1 quart chicken or white-stock
1 pint terrapin meat
1 cup cream
2 hard-boiled egg-yolks
2 tablespoonfuls butter
1 tablespoonful rice flour
½ teaspoonful salt
½ saltspoonful paprika
a blade of mace
instructions
To prepare this Terrapin Soup Recipe, first 1/2 glass madeira or sherry.
Simmer the terrapin meat for half an hour in the stock, adding the salt, mace, and paprika. Mash the egg-yolks smooth, and add with the hot cream. Rub together the rice flour and butter until smooth, mix with a little of the hot liquor, then stir it into the soup; let it boil a few minutes and add the wine.
Serve with dry plain boiled rice or rice-or egg-*****.
