Default Coleslaw

Any good ideas as to making the above, preferably not a copy and paste job from some internet site but one that you actually make yourself.

Whilst we're on the subject I need some new ideas for sauces to baste meat with on the barby.

Both need to be simple as I can't be arsed to **** about in shops looking for obscure ingredients.

Cheers.

Carrot & White cabbage through the shredder on the food processor then add Helman's or Salad Cream to suit. That's the simplest. You can add other stuff and do more interesting things with the mayo to suit if you like.

Marinade - Hoi Sin sauce is great for ribs / pork
Soy, Worcestershire sauce, tommy K, tabasco and Brown sauce isn't a bad substitute.

My coleslaw's famous.....in my raod anyway........

Ingredients: carrots, white and red cabbage, red onions, salad cream, mayonnaise and thousand island dressing.

Chop the white and red cabbage into strands, along with the red onion, then add grated carrot. Mix in a little salad cream, with lots of mayo and thousand island, and hey presto

Adding a few small pieces of apple will give it a bit of sweetness as well.

Pinenuts, lightly toasted and sultanas / raisins make a nice addition at the end as well

1tsp english mustard
5+ cloves garlic bashed up
5tbsp balsamic vinegar
1tbsp olive oil
pinch of salt and pepper

My nan always adds sultanas and it completely transforms coleslaw (in a good way!)

I didn't have any sultanas but used the following:

White Cabbage
Carrots
Salad Cream
Double Cream
Ground Pepper
Curry Powder
Lemon

Much better than the supermarket stuff!

I'll try some new sauces tonight.

My indonesian chicken marinade:

Finely chop red chillis, garlic and ginger and coriander in equal measures
Add quite a bit of honey
And a bit less soy sauce

Save some to use as a drizzle, and use the rest as a marinade. Very nice.

Coming from someone who insists on standing in front of a strimmer, that emoticon is most appropriate.

You have a point but coleslaw? I can't think of anything more dull and pointless. How about making your own toilet roll?

Don't knock it until you've tried it - "The Guardian" is particularly absorbant!

If you find cooking dull and pointless then you probably have a point but the home made variety is vastly superior to anything I've come across in either M&S or Sainsburys.

Toilet roll is more difficult, not having access to a paper mill and then there are decisions such as wicking action, grammage, ply and colour to consider which make the whole process a lot slower.
