Question Norfolk - any good?

Hi

I'm contemplating a little sojourn down to Norfolk - never been before and like the look of the beaches (Cromer, Holkham, Hunstanton, Sheringham, etc.).

So what's it like? I've heard the roads aren't too brilliant - true or false? Which resorts/areas should be avoided (I'm not keen on places that are too popular, i.e. mega-crowds)? And how much is gas? Availability?

Cheers

They have some cracking roads in that area of the country

The only downside of course is that if the locals aren't driving tractors then they're all driving around at 30 mph so they might as well be in a tractor

Nice area of the country, well worth a visit

EDITED TO ADD: I used to work with a bloke who was born and raised there, before he moved to London - he described it as "God's waiting room" so if you like to relax and take things slow then why not visit

Nice part of the world, the beaches are large, sandy and many are deserted. Winterton on Sea an example of this. Just avoid Gt Yarmouth its the Blackpool of the east - unless you like that sort of thing.
The roads are good.
And theres the broads.
Watch out for the mobile cameras - their vans are Orange and discreetely signed on the roofline 'safety camera partnership' went under one on a bridge on the A11 by the time I had worked out it was not an RAC van I would have been done if I had been going slightly faster. Was only doing 75-80 at the time.

Roads are great, but not long and straight, more twisty and indirect, but isn't that what every subaru driver likes?
Avoid great yarmouth, but then again if you have got lexus lights, gold wheels and a dump valve, you will feel positively reverred and adored.
Superb countryside, beaches excellent, plenty of shell garages (at least one in every town, and plenty in Norwich), great place to visit.

Have a look on www.scoobycity.co.uk and the superb people on there will also be happy to assist.

Based on where you live, if you are in a glass house, dont throw stones.

I'll make sure the gold wheels come off before I journey down then.
Actually, Great Yarmouth was already crossed off my list.

Thanks, all, for your comments. I know you tell it like it is, unlike the tourist boards, et al.

Enjoy And remember to take some tight rubber pants with you for the beach ..... after all you don't wanna have sand rubbing around your private parts when driving spiritedly down those country lanes

North Norfolk is OK. Don't bother going any further south. Draw a 30 mile radius around Great Yarmouth and stay away from anywhere that reaches.

Gas is average priced, but tends to be hard to find. Links:

As for the roads....They're pretty poor. High verges and overgrown bushes hide some nasty little places waiting for an unfamiliar fast driver to kill themselves. Tractors and pensioners spoil it too.

It's a really interesting place given that most of it is 40 foot or so below sea level. People say that the fenlands are living on borrowed time and eventually they will have to give up pumping the land dry, as it is no longer economical, and let it return to the sea.

Visit while you still can.

Usually fall into one of 2 catergories. 30mphs potterering tourists - or the locals in 4x4s doing 80+ straight at you

If you wanna see a really nice part of North Norfolk, get yourself up to Burnham Market. Its got a fantastic character and is soooo not like the tacky seaside town of Gt Yarmouth. (Hunstanton is also a little like Yarmouth as well).
Check out Sheringham, Cley and Blakeney. Great road linking all 3, if theres not too much traffic on it, you'll have a load of fun.
