Sir Ian Blair - Why the lies?
Why all the lies? Something to do with the surname?

Ran away after being challenged - False
Jumped barriers - False

Just a innocent guy getting a tube. Shot repeatidly whilst sat down.
Very, very sad.

Yes, it appears that the police have cocked up big time.
All involved should resign immediately and face the appropriate criminal charges. The series of events portrayed previously was vastly different to what is being shown in these reports.

I don't quite think he was sitting down reading the times, sucking a Werthers Original when he was shot.

I originally supported the police action very strongly with the first descriptions of what had happened.
If this leak is true then this has become a horrific story and we shall have to wait for the official enquiry to find out what really happened. I hope the real truth comes out and if it goes the wrong way then I also hope that those responsible are punished severely.

Quite apart from the poor bugger who was caught up in all this it does so much to undermine respect for the police. Even to the extent of questioning whether the "Offical Enquiry" will actually reveal the truth. Who is doing the enquiry btw - is it by an outside police force or something supervised by a judge?

Ian Blair was too quick to take the word of one/some of his officers - he's politically inept - not a good thing to be if you're in charge of the metropolitain police.
He should have just towed the normal line in these matters - I cannot comment on operational Issues.
He'll lose his job over this - probably resign.

The latest documents suggest Mr de Menezes had walked into Stockwell Tube station, picked up a free newspaper, walked through ticket barriers, had started to run when he saw a train arriving and was sitting down in a train when he was shot.

People/witnesses where scared (for good reasons) and maybe their brains filled in bits they wanted to or thought they has seen.
I remember some witnesses reports saying he had a bomb in a bag or attached to him (think it was this one?).

Paul, I think you might be confusing that with the failed bombings on 21/7??? I could be wrong but I remember following the news on this and dont recall that being said, I do recall though that people quite clearly said they was reading the paper, heard shouting and somebody fellin the doorway of the train whilst a group of plain clothed men piled ontop of him.... Not exaclty sat in a chair

The chance of me bein g confused are....................well quite high really!
I have a nagging feeling you are right about the dates.
I hope the truth comes out.
I hope this does not undermine the Police and the great job they have done so far protecting us.
I hope the officers did the right thing.
I hope this does not jepadise our saftey in future if armed Police and in particular SO19 stops to think about what could happen to them if the intel is wrong, the suspect turns out to be a bomber and detonates killing and maiming many. If i **** up in my job the worse that can happen is i lose a client. If these (armend Police) guys screw up then people can die. This is not the sort of responsibility i would want to carry about each and every day. I know they are traind to a high level - especially SO19 and in particular the SFO's.
I would put my trust in them any day.
This really is a ****e situation!

The copper in chief is a career officer in every sense of the word. He has sucked up to Billy Boy over ID cards and he will duck and dive in typical political fashion to avoid any possible consequences should the enquiry come out with the wrong answers.
I just hope it is proved beyond doubt that the SFO's acted correctly under the circumstances however.

Agreed, sadly there seem to be more and more career cops in the higher jobs, well no suprise thats the way the govenment likes it.
Listening to R5 live yesterday in the car and the interview with Norman Brennan (also director of the Victims of Crime Trust) re Winson Silcott. Norman is a serving officer, Ian Blair has made no fewer that 3 complaints about NB to his senior officer to get himn shut up on different matters.
About time the likes of Norman Brennan got into the senior positions and started to run the force, oh not allowed to call it a force anymore it is the Police Service as it should be - properly!

Yes but was it "ducking and diving" or acting in response to a message from you-know-who saying "I don't care what actually happened I just want this to look like this was a terrorist caught red handed" If it was the latter then he may have dug more than his own grave.....

If it was like that David Lock, we can expect him to be in the Lords in a year's time!
Quite right Kiwi, didn't someone say they saw electrical wires under his jacket as well?

We'll get the truth eventually. We'll see some form of CCTV so I'll reserve judgement on the events of 23/7 for then.

I couldn't quite believe what I was hearing at the time this happened. The govt. had effectivley turned us in to a police state over night, and hardly anyone noticed. 52 people died which is horrific, but how many died during WW2 to protect our freedom? By allowing the police a shot to kill policy they took away our civil rights. Unfortunatley there are too many Sun readers in this country who just nod and say Bah! Now I hope some of them will take note, an innocent man was killed for NO reason, and the officers who did it will get away with it. The report is largely irrelevent as the guy was innocent.
